Wrestling: Hazewinkel wins world title

Former Oklahoma standout Sam Hazewinkel added another title to his wrestling career after winning the gold medal at the University World Championships this past weekend in Greece.

The four-time Sooner All-American downed Kazakhstan’s Yemar Ramazanov 1-2, 5-0, 5-0 in the 55 kg/121 pound finals.

Wrestling: OU gets ready for NCAAs

Five Sooner wrestlers will set their sights on the podium at the NCAA Championships beginning this Thursday, March 20, in St. Louis, Mo. The action starts at 11 a.m., and will run through Saturday, March 22.

  The No. 3 Oklahoma State wrestling team (16-2-1 overall) puts a cap on the 2008 regular season when it travels to Norman to face No. 17 Oklahoma at 7 p.m. Thursday in McCasland Fieldhouse.

Wrestling: Bedlam on TV

Thursday’s Bedlam wrestling dual in Norman will be televised by Cox Channel 7 in Oklahoma City, it was announced today. Toby Rowland and Ryan Schafer will call the action, which is set to begin at 7 p.m. in McCasland Fieldhouse.

A limited number of tickets remain for Thursday’s dual at a cost of $10 for general admission. Contact the Oklahoma ticket office at (405) 325-2424 or toll-free (800) 456-GoOU.

Oklahoma State has won each of its last 19 duals against Oklahoma and hasn’t lost to the Sooners since 1995. Should the Cowboys extend their winning streak over OU to 20, it would match the longest winning streak in the history of the Bedlam Series. OSU won 20 consecutive over Oklahoma from 1969 through 1979.


Wrestling: Looking ahead to Bedlam

The second installment of Bedlam hits the Howard McCasland Field House in Norman this Thursday, Feb. 21, when the No. 17 Sooners host the No. 3 Oklahoma State Cowboys in final Big 12 dual for both squads. The match is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m., with doors opening at 5:30.

OU: Gymnastics, wrestling teams compete together

The No. 17 Sooners return home this Friday, Feb. 15, at the Lloyd Noble Center in Norman when they host the Cal Poly Mustangs (5-6) at 7 p.m., in the first annual “Beauty and the Beast” event.

The squad will share the floor with the OU women’s gymnastics team who will simultaneously compete against Big 12 rival Iowa State in the dual-team event.
