Softball: Eckermann up for senior honor
OU senior pitcher Lauren Eckermann was named one of 10 finalists for the Softball Division of the 2008 Lowe’s Senior CLASS Award. Nationwide balloting begins immediately to determine this year’s winner, which will receive the award during the NCAA Women’s College World Series in Oklahoma City, Okla.
Softball: OU opens Big 12 play vs. Kansas
LEADING OFF
After playing 33 non-conference games this season, the No. 11 Oklahoma softball team (25-8) will open Big 12 play this weekend at the OU Softball Complex. The Sooners will host the Kansas Jayhawks (23-6) in their conference opener. The two-game series will open on Friday night at 7 p.m. and will conclude with a 1 p.m. meeting against Kansas on Saturday.
Softball: OU shuffles schedule
The Oklahoma softball team has changed its schedule for Wednesday, March 19. The Sooners will now play one game against Missouri State at 5 p.m. at the OU Softball Complex.
Originally, OU was scheduled to play a doubleheader at 5 p.m. against Wichita State.
The Sooners are headed to California this week for a Thursday night game against Fresno State followed by the Capital Classic in Sacramento (March 14-16).
Oklahoma will return home on March 19 for the contest against Missouri State and will host its Big 12 opener against Kansas on Friday, March 21 at 7 p.m.
Softball: OU readies for road trip
The No. 8 Oklahoma softball team has been in the state of Oklahoma the last two weeks and will now hit the road for a contest against No. 18 Fresno State on Thursday followed by the Capital Classic in Sacramento (March 14-16). The Sooners will first head to Fresno, Calif., on Thursday to take on No. 18 Fresno State at 7 p.m. Oklahoma time.
Softball: Three OU players drafted
The Oklahoma softball team had three players taken in the 2008 National Pro Fastpitch Senior Draft on Monday. Seniors Savannah Long, Susan Ogden and Lauren Eckermann were three of the 24 senior softball players taken in the draft.
The Sooners tied Georgia Tech with the most selections by one team as each school had three players taken in the draft. OU also led all Big 12 schools with the most selections as Texas A&M’s Megan Gibson was the only other Big 12 player selected.

Softball: OU has top Big 12 pitcher, player
Oklahoma swept the first slate of weekly Big 12 softball awards as Amber Flores was named the Player of the Week and D.J. Mathis received the Pitcher of the Week honor, the conference announced Tuesday.
Softball: OU opens season Tuesday against St. Greg’s
The No. 5 Oklahoma softball team hosts St. Gregory’s in its home opener on Tuesday. The Sooners and Cavaliers will meet at 3:30 p.m. on Marita Hynes Field inside the OU Softball Complex.

MEN’S BASKETBALL (15-6, 3-3)
Last Week: Oklahoma split its two games last week, beating Bedlam rival Oklahoma State 64-61 on Monday in Norman before falling at No. 23 Texas A&M 60-52 on Saturday. Junior forward Taylor Griffin led the Sooners against OSU by scoring a career-high 20 points and pulling down a game-high six rebounds, while Blake Griffin added 15 points, four boards and three assists. Senior guard David Godbold keyed OU offensively at Texas A&M as he netted a career-high 22 points with the help of 6-for-10 3-point shooting. The Sooners led 51-50 in College Station but were outscored 10-1 over the final three minutes.
Softball: Two Sooners on preseason watch list
Oklahoma softball players Lauren Eckermann and Samantha Ricketts have been named to the initial watch list for the seventh annual USA Softball National Collegiate Player of the Year Award, announced the Amateur Softball Association, the National Governing Body of Softball in the United States. Ricketts was named one of three finalists for the award last year.
