Gymnastics: OU beats No. 2 Michigan

In a top-five showdown at the McCasland Field House Saturday night, the fifth-ranked Oklahoma men’s gymnastics team opened its home season in style, defeating No. 2 Michigan 351.400-347.000. Freshman Steven Legendre claimed his third straight all-around title with an 85.850 and OU scored team season highs on rings (60.000), vault (63.000) and parallel bars (58.550) to earn a thrilling come-from-behind victory.

Gymnastics: Big meet for OU men Saturday

The Oklahoma men’s gymnastics team opens its home season Saturday, Jan. 26, against the University of Michigan. The matchup between the fifth-ranked Sooners and second-ranked Wolverines is slated for a 7 p.m. start at OU’s Howard McCasland Field House.

Straight from the source, here’s OU athletic notes for the week.

MEN’S BASKETBALL (13-5, 1-2)
Last Week: The Sooners split their two games, losing 85-55 at No. 3 Kansas on Monday before regrouping to beat Texas Tech 63-61 at home on Saturday. Longar Longar scored a team-high 21 points against Kansas and shared team-high honors with Taylor Griffin by netting 16 points versus Texas Tech. Against the Red Raiders, Longar added nine rebounds and three blocks while Griffin grabbed 12 rebounds for his first double-double of the year.

Gymnastics: OU sweeps Big 12 honors

Leading OU to the third-best team score in the NCAA this season in its win over TWU, Sooner gymnasts Kiara Redmond-Sturms and Hollie Vise were honored as Big 12 Gymnast and Event Specialist of the Week, the conference office announced Tuesday.

The third-ranked Oklahoma men’s gymnastics team claimed its second straight victory over No. 10 Nebraska and Air Force Sunday at the Bob Devaney Center in Lincoln, Neb.  The Sooners scored a 349.700 to beat the second place Huskers (341.400).  Air Force finished third with a 323.650.  Oklahoma defeated both programs en route to a season-opening win at the Rocky Mountain Open, Jan. 12, in Colorado Springs, Colo.

Gymnastics: OU women win

Sweeping all four event titles for the third consecutive meet, the No. 9 OU women’s gymnastics squad coasted to a 196.45-192.8 victory over Texas Woman’s University in Denton, Texas, on Saturday night.  Senior All-American Kiara Redmond-Sturms won her third all-around title of the season in front of the second-largest crowd in TWU history as the Sooners posted season high’s on bars (49.2) and floor (49.275).

Gymnastics: OU meets Nebraska, Air Force

Same teams, different setting.  One week after sweeping Air Force and No. 10 Nebraska at the Rocky Mountain Open, the third-ranked Oklahoma men’s gymnastics team faces both teams again, this time at the Bob Devaney Center in Lincoln, Neb.  The meet, scheduled for Sunday, Jan. 20 is slated for a 2 p.m. start.

“Even though the teams will be the same it will be a totally different environment,” head coach Mark Williams said.  “Nebraska always brings their A game on their home floor.”
