Sooners are not set up to have a run / pass QB....it would require a new offensive scheme. Bell only ran the Belldozer which is not a "spread offense". Klein was not only a good athlete but he was a good General on the field. Bell has only proved that he can hand off or run downfield with a couple of big bruisers in front of him. Say what you will but Trevor Knight is the more elusive of the two and has the best long term capability. Trouble with Stoops is once he focuses on a QB he does not waver...these past few years he should have given his backup QB's more playing time with more than just clean-up work or Belldozer work. OU has some great recruits that just sit their entire career on the bench never getting to play and develop...Drew Allen is but one example. If Bell gets the nod if I was Trevor I would look at transferring....

As for the defense...that is what needs to greatly improve this year and most likely will hold them to the back of the pack this year. They were bad last year and losing 7 players may hurt but on the other hand may bring fresh faces.

Regarding Blake Bell not being faster than Collin Klein. Klein tested at the combine at 4.81 both times. Watch Bell's long run against Baylor this year and you can see he is faster than a 4.8. Klein was strong, well coached and timed his runs well, but he never had a run of over 50 yards in his career.

It's easy to stand back and pass judgement on a player or coach. Stoops would have fired Heupel and hired a new OC if he were the problem, the offense moves the ball and moves it well. It wasn't perfect and they didn't have a great Oline with all the injuries toward the end of the year. But it will get better and they will move the football in 2013 if they both can run and pass. However, a new QB has to gain experience. Now if their defense can just stop someone, it might be a good year. This is a different age, so many teams today run their own spread offense and can move the ball well, OST, Baylor, WVU, T-Tech, and don't discount the KST and TCU attack either. By the way, these teams scored on everyone.

Reading the comments, we do realize the last year was Heupel's first as the OC (co-OC technically). He has developed Bradford and did the best he could with the most non-mobile qb i have seen (about 5 40 time really?). I will be interested to see how this plays out in the fall which can not get here soon enough. I just hope we are not in a huge rebuilding year.

As much as Sooner fans respect Heupel, it's clear that at this point he is unable to run a dynamic run/pass offense. Think about all the talented RBs that have come trough Norman the last few seasons and how they've been under-utilized or mis-managed.

Actually Klein ran a 4.78 at the nfl combine and bell is around a 4.75 guy so they're about the same speed. It's going to be interesting to actually have a qb with mobility in this offense. We all saw what Klein was able to accomplish and bell is a better passer than him. I look for big things from Blake bell this year.
