That’s what I thought Jason, Grissom and Ndula on the line and somebody playing hybrid-linebackers. Personally they can call it what they want but I don’t think it will look that much different. Still a bunch of defensive backs trying to play backer. With a bunch of cover guys on defense, no wonder we can’t tackle.

And Eric Striker will also be on the edge. With the current personnel and the 2013 signees I think this 3-4 will be 3-4 only in formation but will have 2 tackles 2 ends, 2 athletic LBs, and 1 hybrid that can play close to the line and play pass coverage (that’s why they picked up Aleaxander and Wade this year). Still have 4 rushers, just from different angles. It will look like Venables D, but with more emphasis on pass coverage. I really can’t see them going any other way with it with all the hybrid players on the roster

I think Grissom can only play with his hand on the ground. I think with the athletes we have up front that the weakside end will not be a DT, but a traditional end. I think Nelson should play outside, he’s a great pass rusher and move Favors back inside on the strongside. Excited to see what this 3-4 will actually look like though

Okay OU has a few big defensive players up front…they tire quickly…who are the back-ups. Is there much depth on the line. The way offenses play this year unless you stop them cold they wear defenses down with up tempo.

The linebackers were underwhelming last year…and do not look to be much better this year. A problem.

Defensive secondary….pretty good last year but this year does not look as good.

Overall the defense does not look to be even as good as last years underwhelming defense. With a new QB and a few offensive lossed combined with the defense 2013 does not look to be one of the better Sooner teams…

Hope the offense scores a lot; this crew can’t stop anybody. Projecting a defense that’s a cut below what we had last year.

maybe that is why we had the coaching changes, that plus the flying about so to speak only works if you know where to fly to. I agree on one thing, didn’t look like they were intense at times. The players play the game and they need to be excited about football at OU. Recruiting, good coaching, hard work, repetition and never quitting, that is what will put us back on top.

3-4, 4-3, 23 skidoo. Alignment will not matter as much as OU’s intensity level. Maybe some day we will see OU defensive football like it was a few years ago, guys flying all over the field, OU defenders hammering the opposition. Not sure what it will take to see that kind of effort. You see it at Alabama and LSU. Will we ever see it again at OU?

The way you’ve drawn up their 3-4, you’ve essentially got them running the 50-front defense again.

I think a Mike Stoops “3-4″ is what anyone else would call a 3-2-6. IE,

On the line:
Grissom, Phillips, Ndulue

Backers:
Wilson, Nelson, Shannon, Lynn

This assumes we run a traditional 3-4, ie., big d-linemen and outside linebackers, etc. You don’t think OU will do something funky where they run an undersized 3-4 do you? Something where a few of your projected outside linebackers actually stay at DE? And how much do you expect OU to stay in 3-4 and not switch through multiple defensive sets within a game, disregarding situation dependent scenarios? Thanks.
