Roy Finch works his tail off for all you detractors. Seen it first hand. He could light up any offense with his speed and his deceptive moves. You’ve seen it in the games and the highlights. His yard per carry is consistent and Roy is not afraid to take the punishment either. You have all seen him take it to players much bigger than him. OU’s problem is they recruit everyone in sight so no one else can get them and then they end up being wasted when they could star for other schools.

Williams is slow to the hole, and Clay doesn’t seem to be able to make defenders miss at the second level. If he’s not redshirted, Keith Ford may end up starting by week three.

Just because Blake Bell played QB for short yardage does not give him the credentials to be the #! QB. Knight has taken off on the scrub team and may be the better choice. Drew Allen will be somewhere else unless he wants to keep the bench warm his final season. Thomas is just too raw and he may still jump to MLB for the bucks. It is a shame that Stoops does not give his QB’s on the bench more playing time on the field once the game is under control…that is one reason no one knows who is the true leader.

Damien Williams and Roy Finch would be a great 1 to 2 punch. I’m so pissed we don’t use Finch more. He was great his freshman year.

“Roy Finch doesn’t block” aka “we don’t have enough carries to go around” Contrary to popular opinion, bad blocking never stopped AD. Kejuan came in on blocking downs. When they recruited Finch did they think he’d become 190 LBS? The whole not blocking thing is stupid. He’s a playmaker, but he’s small, he’ll always be able to add a spark to the run game, and he’ll never be able to sustain a block on 230 LB linebackers. Put him in in spots and let him do what he was recruited for, being explosive and adding another dimension to the offense

Plenty of talent on O-Line just not depth to 3rd team. Again, goes back to recruiting and the fact we didn’t get much in the 2013 class. I hope Bedenbaugh is as good as advertised…hopefully as good or better than Kevin Wilson when he coached and recruited O-Line.

Whoever the QB is will have to earn it. Why does everyone think Bell cannot read defenses or learn the playbook simply because he ran the Belldozer? Guess folks have forgotten what he did in high school and for some reason think he isn’t smart enough to learn the playbook. I think we will see a somewhat slimmed down Bell…not at 250-260, but at 235-240. He will need speed to play the position. That’s my only concern with him. Thomas will not be on campus until summer…if he indeed plays at the collegiate level. There is less time for him to learn the system…at least the way Stoops has developed QBs in the past. He will have his shot, but realistically the offense is so complex, I don’t see an incoming freshman taking the job….even if he ran a similar offense in high school…..big difference….not for the skill the QB has, but the rest of the offense the QB played with….speed and talent at other offensive positions that dictate the plays that are called. OU has a lot of playmakers…so much so our coaches haven’t figured out how to use all the talent. Most high schools do not have the talent and speed that OU has on offense. In other words, the QB has more plays to learn and also has to learn to read defenses. So, an incoming freshman has a steep learning curve. But, Thomas will get his shot…just as Knight and Thompson. I never want another 4 year QB at OU. LJ was enough….but, at this time, Bell has to be seated ahead of all the others simply because he has actual playing time and got some snaps running the first team as the back up to LJ in practices as well. It doesn’t mean that he will be anointed, he will have to earn it. LJ earned the back up role to Bradford…that is why he was the starter. Drew Allen was 3rd string and never got an opportunity to see meaningful playing time. Stoops showed this heat that there is competition at the QB position….Bell moved past Allen….

Blake Bell has only played in a special role…Belldozer. His credentials as a QB are overstated. Reading defenses and the playbook have not consumed much of his limited playing time. Trevor Knight seems to me to be the better athelete with more potential for the next few years. Don’t know why Finch saw only limited play last year…he is small so I understand his lack of blocking capability…I would think he could be a great receiver that could get great after catch yardage. While receivers were pretty good last year and appear to be good this coming year Metroyer never really impressed. Shepard and Saunders will be the main targets that produced last year.

Offense should be pretty good but not quite as good as last year with a new QB and Brown gone along with a thin offensive line. Playing in a conference with weak defenses should help. Plyaing Notre Dame will tell a whole lot.

So Willie, are you making a comparison between Jones/Allen and Knight/Thomas? Makes sense, but we need to see what happens with Thomas and the MLB draft. Seems to me that Kendall Thompson is the guy right now that could be in the Allen situation, as he may never see the field if Knight ends up living up to his scout team accolades.
