The bad thing about the LB talent is that both Wort & Nelson were highly ranked kids recruited by everyone in the country, they were not lacking for talent coming out if HS. I think an obvious area that needs to be looked at is OU’s Strength & Comditioning. Highly recruited & ranked kids continue to head to Norman and have their bodies break down on them as they get slower & lose quickness as they gain weight. All while other staffs are managing to find a way to increase size, speed, strength, explosion, and quickness of their kids. OU players lose those attributes as they gain weight, or they don’t translate to the field.

The level of LB talent at OU has dropped dramatically over the years. If you play defense you go to the SEC. Especially now that the defense at OU is not geared to LBs. Of course that could be out of necessity. The LBs have played so poorly how can you rely on them? Kish had better recruit better or this defense will continue to go down hill fast.

JB, Hayes hasn’t been a coach yet when Stoops hired him because he had spent the previous 12 years PLAYING IN THE NFL, not preaching & practicing law. Just a hunch but I bet Hayes gained a lot of knowledge with over a decade in the NFL. Kittle got hired because he was Bob’s best friend. Really Joe C. and Boren never should have allowed Bob to make such a hire. They wouldn’t allow any other random guy off the street with no experience & Stoops wouldn’t hire such a person either. At over 60 years old Kish naturally can’t keep up in recruiting like a 30 year old, not to mention the LB’s aren’t real fond of him, just ask Wort & Nelson.

Coach Kish is not that bad. Played for him while he was at Army – he was actually pretty good. That was quite while ago so things could have changed.

Kish wasn’t a great hire, Kittle remains to be seen, but Jonathan Hayes hadn’t coached before he came to OU and propelled himself into an NFL coaching job. Also, Venables was an overrated recruiter and an average defensive coordinator which is why OU’s defense steadily declined after Mike Stoops’ departure.

I have to say that Stoops can hire better assistants and recruit better. What happend to the no excuses and let’s take care of business attitude? That attitude caried on to the field. Sooner football is not about making plays but finishing them. Doesn’t matter on or off the field. What happend? The recruiting is down and what happend to our LB’s? Sooner Nation needs help! You can’t deny it truth is in te number that state the facts. WTF BOB?! WANT IT! I would give my left nut for a part of the prestige, you are taking it for granted.

Patrick, normally I would say that is harsh. But Kish did completely mess up the recruitment of Mike Mitchell by not speaking, with a future NFL LB who was down the road in Plano, for 8 months. With Kittle, his only qualifying factor was being Bob’s best man in his wedding & I am sure listening to plenty of interesting football conversations over the years at the Stoops Family Christmas party. OU’s current GA’s have years more experience than does Mr. Skittles.

Only took a week off? Then why did Cameron Hampton, a 5 star LB recruit who has been a Sooner fan for life move A&M ahead of OU on his list of schools? Kish went 5 weeks without calling this kid, while Kevin Sumlin moves in?

Kish hasn’t been here long, but it’s pretty clear he isn’t anywhere close to being the recruiter Venables was.

Stoops needs to quit with this “good ‘ol boy” hiring philosophy of recent years. OU could do much better than Kish or Kittle.

Good luck Tim. Maybe in the future Bob will allow you to recruit some real LB’s instead of trying to make safeties & DB’s into LB’s.
