Sounds so simple to block out distractions on the field right? No pay attention to life outside football. Having the media downtown and around campus constantly, watching, wondering who is going to leave. Waiting for someone to say something wrong, tweet something they shouldn’t so they can post it for the world. Getting ready for the game and having the media asking more questions about the sanctions and not your preparation. I can’t imagine how difficult that was. This team and coaches would make any school proud. I would like to see any other school have this happen to them and survive. You need the right person to steer the ship. Penn State hasn’t survived anything. It’s only just begun. Coach O’Brien came in, took what he didn’t cause, and move this squad forward. This year, he easily deserves the Coach of the Year.

I think people are overthinking it and giving O’Brien a little too much credit. It’s football, not rocket science, and out on that field it’s really not that hard to block out the distractions and perform. True, he lost a lot of talent due to last minute transfers, but I still wouldn’t award anybody national coach of the year for going 8-4. It’s no miracle to go 8-4 in college football.

I have no problem with that. If O’Brien does not get it we all know the award is a farce. I would move Meyer down. He is a good coach no doubt but Florida was this close away and A&M had a pretty decent yar also.
