The heat is going to be white hot and last longer than the flood of tears over another OU beat down. Mack will show how good he and his staff are from this point on in what has to be one of the biggest challenges any coach faces....players who have no faith in the coaching staff. Mack has already put the hammer down on discipline. He has done some of the easiest things to right the UT ship. His problems started 3 years ago. This is the second year with a new coaching staff. He wants SEC style football. His DC coached in the SEC. He has all kinds of NFL talent on defense. But, when his offense can't get a first down and the defense plays 15 more minutes than the offense (I think this happened to OU in the KSU loss, too) few defenses will be good enough to win....which really tells you how strong our defense was against KSU....we didn't get routed and still had a chance to win it in the 4th. The UT offense gave up a fumble and 2 pics as well...again sounds like our KSU game. The results were much uglier for Mack playing against an arch rival ready to play.

But, back to Mack...3 years of sub par football...last year they could beat teams they should have beaten and took a 5-7 team to a 7-5 team....most UT fans were not happy, but he showed progress....had a good bowl win. His offense is good enough to win against teams who rely on offense to win the game. David Ash is much improved against average defenses. But the players around him have to do their job....catch a pass or two when it hits you in the hands...block for your running backs and receivers....pass block...UT looked more like OU at UTEP...except they weren't playing UTEP....5 games ago our offense didn't look much better...

Texas' priority has to be to get better on offense quickly. I am assuming Ash has a broken wrist and is done. Case McCoy has a different skill set and brings many I tangibles. He is more like Applewhite...his arm isn't as strong, however. I never thought Harsin was a good hire for Mack...he relies on too many gimmicks and does not embrace an SEC style offense if that is what Mack wants now. UT should have a mobile QB with Case...that should help...Colt made the UT offense work....VY made the UT offense work....Applewhite made the UT offense work...Ash has a whole different skill set....drop back passer...and a good one when he has time.
However, the UT offense's problems start on the line...they are not tough enough...and they have the best 'talent' in Texas.

I remember a few weeks ago how writers said OU's 'talent' level was down.
Seems like at this stage, with the talent UT has, fixing the O-Line shouldn't be so hard if you have good coaching...same thing with tackling on defense...another problem UT has. Solving issues on offense, will tremendously help UT's defense...that desperately needs some linebackers or a new scheme. That is the genius of Mike Stoops...he takes what he has, evaluates each player's skill set, and uses them in a scheme that gives his defense the best chance for success. UT's defensive coaches must get some help on offense to give its defense a chance, but also must re-evaluate how to address the most apparent weakness on the team...ineffective linebackers and bad tackling.

Good coaching should be able to correct these issues quickly...but half the season is over...good thing for Mack, WVU, OSU, and OU are behind him. TT, TCU, and KSU await...all have strong defenses. Fix it or have another 7-5 year....not acceptable at UT...win 2 of those 3, and end 9-3. Mack buys another year. Mid-terms are over for students...looks like the coaches at UT are just about to take theirs..

Time for the Big Mack to go. Goes to show you that all the talent in the world can not bear want and desire...and of course a little good coaching. Not that Texas could not be a great football team it is just that Mack has lost his touch. He ditched his coaches when the losing trend started a couple of years ago but he forgot to fire one more...himself!
