Landry is a good kid. He just doesn't have the "IT" factor. No fire in the belly that I can see. Doesn't have that field general presence. Coaches can praise his cool, even keeled, not to high, not to low and unflappable personality all they want. That's great to an extent but you've got to have a little emotion now and then to
fire up the guys around you. Good or bad circumstances he always looks like he's shopping at the grocery store. Kinda there but not to thrilled.

Stills is just defending his teammate. But a look at the game in a ruthlessly honest manner reveals that Landry IS IN FACT responsible for the loss. Any other analysis without including Landry's poor play is either incomplete or a denial of the facts.

It's natural for people to rally around Landry. Criticism is not hatred. I don't know why that hasn't been learned. He's our guy for sure. But has EARNED this criticism. He has the tools, why he hasn't used them consistently is anyone's guess. He's letting his teammates down, his coaches down, and the school down.

Stills, quit ball-bagging for Landry. It's the head that's attached to Landrys body thats the problem. But that's not the only problem on that team. Better start with the head coach and work down.

Kenny is right: it is not Landry's fault.

It is the ball's fault.

It jumped out of his hand and into the end zone.

It flew into the hands of an opponent when he threw it.

Darn that ball! Ball had better step it up and stop making Landry Jones look bad.

Stills is a smart man...once the fuming over how OU lost subsided, what is very apparent is that this team has a lot of growing pains before OU gets back to being a contender...a role thrust upon them by the polls and media. I am not blaming the media...with a program like OU, its success and the apparent pieces in place on offense and a new defensive coach made it look promising for a title run in early May in spite of all of the signals that this was a program experiencing many internal issues.

If fans would have really looked closely at the program since last December, they would admit feeling that 2012 was going to be a tough year coupled with a tough schedule. At this point it is about not falling over the cliff like Texas did a couple of years ago. OU has had a sting of winning seasons (many 10 win seasons) for 13 years. It would be a huge step backward if OU returns to a 5 win season or worse. It could happen. Stoops is going to earn every cent he makes this year to keep that from happening.

So, the best thing is for fans to do what the players are doing...take this season game by game and celebrate the steps forward and stop being overly critical - to the point it is a detriment to all those that are part of the program. I am not saying to give every player a pop cycle for doing things that are expected or to let the coaches off the hook. I am saying that the tone needs to change by fans and media. I am guilty, too. The KSU game was one of the most frustrating games I have attended until I think about the games I saw when John Blake coached. The negativity by fans and the implications of some of the news articles is appalling. Give this team a chance. I think criticism about effort, coaching calls, schemes, execution are fair game. But comments that demean or stories that set up those kind of demeaning remarks is turning OU football into the Jerry Springer Show. Sometimes things are just better left unsaid.

Don't get me wrong, I am not lowering my standards for OU by using John Blake as my reference point for OU football. No way...Stoops has had too many teams that have played at the highest levels. I won't even mention Bud and Barry. But context is important and I think we have thrown the context out when examining this team. That doesn't mean we have to settle...what it means is we have to "temper our irrational exuberance " and think about the consequences of the printed word.
