There is a reason why in the BCS era only one time has a team won the championship with a coach who had been head coach at that school for longer than seven years. After a few years the program goes stale. Every eight years the head coach should clean out the program. Bring in all new assistants (and not ones that had left and gotten fired from their new job and needed a place to work even if he is your brother) and completely revitalize the program. After a while every other coach can out game plan you. They know all your tendencies and can figure out what you are going to do before you do it. Texas had some very down years but when coaches left Mack Brown brought in a group of young coaches to remake the program. This program looks like what happened at Florida State the last years of Bobby Bowden. Stale, predictable, and an also ran in the conference they once dominated. Since OU has started underperforming expectations it is time to make a change. I know I have. I have lowered my expectations. I now expect this team to finish 7-5 and go to the Alamo Bowl or maybe the Pinstripe Bowl. I expect next year to be the same and the year after that as well.

I agree with coach Switzer. OU just don’t have the talent. I think Stoops should step down so he could devote more time to his golf game cause his heart just isn’t in football anymore.

Is the hurry-up offense really the best fit for our current player personnel? Is the offensive pace leading to too many hurried decisions, an inability to read what the defense is giving us and players missing assignments?

Don,

You are correct, it is a free country, everyone is entitled to his/her opinion. Where you are INCORRECT, is thinking that what you posted was an opinion. Opinions don’t attack or degrade another human being. Take notice that I didn’t use ‘fellow’, jury’s still out on whether you qualify. Constructive criticism is one thing, likening Landry to your stupid dog is another. You advised him on what YOU think he’s doing wrong and how YOU thought he could correct it. So yeah, like I said, EVERYONE who thinks they know more about football than the coaches at OU, should list their qualifications to back it up. If you’ve actually played HIS position at the college level, then I would say you know what you’re talking about. But seeing that you recommend a shock collar, I seriously doubt you do. Oh yeah, no politcal blogs here. Never cared about politics, probably never will.

There is no doubt Landry has gotten worse each season. The way he looked Saturday looked like a true freshman playing in front of a big crowd for the first time. If this was his first year here, he probably wouldn’t see any action for the next four years. But because he is a senior starter who has so many OU records, there’s no way he will be benched. He is the starter based on his past performance and not because of his play this year. That is a big mistake but it’s the way it is. So OU fans will have to suffer this year, but thank God he will be gone next year.

I am an Okie and have been a OU fan since 1950. Saw Landry play a couple of games in Artesia High School. Landry has the brains, the arm and the wheels. Wanna be better than Cam, then wise up. Many times I have seen him passing on 3rd and 3 or 3rd and 5 or whatever with all his receivers covered he throws the ball away or throw an interception, his field is wide open for running several yards but I guess he is short on guts to get hit..maybne Stoops says no..5y4z

Stop the crazy talk! OU is not going to pull LJ based on one or two bad games. No doubt LJ had a bad game and made mistakes not expected from someone with as many starts as he has, but he’s the starting QB (period).

Football is a team sport. Guys have got to step-up and make plays. In general we’re weak in the middle. The recruiting on the OL/DL is below where it was 4 to 5 years ago; same goes for LBs.

I think it should be a requirement for anyone that offers advice on playing, or even coaching, to state what their actual profession is. Or better yet, what was their last level of sports played. If you’ve played at the level you’re attempting to coach at, awesome, you’re post may actually have some relevance. Otherwise, you should probably just stay on your couch and stay off your computer.

I have to say i’m with OU fan, too blame has been placed on Landry. I had prior commitments, so I didn’t get to watch the game, only saw the highlights and lowlights. I didn’t agree with your article monday, but was unable to comment at the time. Since then, i’ve seen other articles roasting Stoops, and have also seen idiots post hateful comments on Landry’s FB page. People like that don’t deserve to have OU as a team to even root for, totally ridiculous and un-called for. Let the season play out and give these KIDS a chance to right the ship. None of us as fans, alums, donors, etc, are entitled to an undefeated season or national championship. I don’t understand why those people think they are?
