Joe Wylie, Greg Pruitt, Leon Crosswhite, Jack Mildren. Freshman team stars that left a mark as the foundation for the Greatest rushing offense in College football history. Close to 500 yds. a game on the ground. Opposing teams knew the train was coming and couldn't stop it. Thats Smash-mouth.

Obviously, the question stumped Joe for a minute, but he realized that OU in 1972...now having feature backs in a running offense...would better serve both himself and the team.

I can't imagine what those teams would have been like WITHOUT him. In my opinion...the most exciting, and elusive back in Sooner history. MY favorite player...by far.

Had he gone to another school, he might have had more touches from passes, but not near the carries on the wishbone pitch. The corners were where he was the MOST dangerous. I'd bet he picked up a thing or two from Greg on how to get the most out of those triple-option plays.

Lastly...I can rememebr many games that he practically won on his own. Anyone remember the Missouri game in 1975? His 70+ yard run and ensuing two-point conversion with about four minutes to go, kept OU on track for their second consecutive National Championship.

Joe always played his best when the stakes were the highest.

OU has not had a bcak before, or since, with his overall talent.
