Apples and Oranges. You are comparing Fall GPA to Spring GPA. How much time do football players spend in the classroom and studying during the fall versus the spring semesters? It would be interesting to see a comparison from Spring Semeser 2011 to Spring Semester 2012 but again apples and oranges as the players would not be the same. When reporting it is always good to go little bit deeper to see if what you are reporting is really news or just something thrown out by the coaching staff. Also, if that is what Weiss is talking about at media days you know he expects the team to stink on the field in the fall. Charlie won’t last at KU. He is all about Charlie and that won’t work for a football coach at a basketball school. His ego is the only thing on campus bigger than his gut. My guess is he will go 2-10 and 3-9 in two seasons and then move on to browner grass somewhere else. Hopefully he will move to Texas as the offensive coordinator.

Will, the professors are the same before and after Weis. What Weis did was hold the players accountable. He expected them to attend every class every time. He revamped the tutoring program and expectations for the athletes to apply themselves in their tutoring sessions.

The football players always had the potential to take advantage of what the professors were offering. They apparently just needed their coach to hold them accountable in their classroom performance.

So…. Under the same criteria, is it fair for a poli-sci professor to be held accountable for the on-field record of athletes, as well as their progress in the classroom? Amazing how coaches are applauded for their athletes’ success in the classroom, yet the academia are neither criticized nor congratulated for the accomplishments of said “student-athletes”. Congratulations should be in order to the deans at KU for hiring professors worthy of accomplishing the goals set forth by the university.
