Walter the NCAA is lost, greedy and corrupt much like the rest of US. D1 college football is self destructing itself. It is becoming a circus much like he NFL.

This rule change is contradictary: on the one hand, it helps increase touchbacks, presumably in the name of safety, and, on the other hand, moving the ball out to the 25 tempts/encourages the kick-off team to kick it to the goal line in order to tempt the return team into bringing it out on the run.

What’s the NCAA’s aim here? I am confused. Perhaps they are as well.

Another rule change with the kickoffs is the kicking team will have to line up within 5 yards of the 35 yard line on the kickoff. This will reduce the speed players will be able to generate before they crash into the first line of defenders. This was really the point of moving the ball forward. Also, I have not been able to figure out how teams from division II can get kickers who can kick it into the end zone at least 50 percent of the time and OU cannot. One unintended consquence of the move could be more attempts at on-side kicks. Also, where will the ball be placed if kicks go out of bounds?

Gee will 5yards be enough,don’t we need at least 20 to get it to the goal line?Well maybe that will work for us,we won’t need that special teams coach now,we can just use the one we’ve always had since 2001.Hey even better,we can use all those back ups we have that never get to play anyway.Give’m some pride so they can show us that they can play and not sit on the pine,and then hopefully they will be on the bandwagon and be the Boomers of this years team.Then that chant will mean more to us in 2012,and stand for team work and I myself will yell it louder this year.

With the wind, no matter how strong or slight, OU will do better on kicks. We have enough team speed to make many teams reluctant to return one kicked into the end zone. Though we are known for giving up a return or two or three during the season making it clear we need a special teams coach. Look for the high pooch kick, especially with teams who have great returners. It only works if we tackle.

On the other side, will our returners benefit from the new rules, and overall how will our offense fair?

OU will do well with their weak legged kickers. They will still have trouble getting into the end-zone.

Football is a violent game and people come to watch their team win and like to hear and see a good hit. Yet at the same time anybody that has played defense at the college level will tell you the hardest that they have been hit was running down field on the kick off team and being blind sided and walking around fuzzy for awhile or worse an injury that resulted in them never playing again. There are two points of views on this matter. The one delivering the hit and the other wandering around the sidelines trying to remember his name.
