To the people saying Grunhard only wants him to play because he wants to win is blatantly incorrect. He cares for Justin more than a football player, he's like a third son to Grunny and he wants him to succeed in football but more importantly life. Every kid does have a story, but not every 20 year old needs to be within driving distance to take care of his baby sisters.

Letting him play because he had a rough childhood is silly, but that said the NCAA should do away with the rule. It serves no real purpose imo.

You have to remember that this coach Grunhard wants his new team to win. He is prejudiced by this and can't be objective. Like so many have said, if we allow this to happen, we will esentially have free agency in college sports. Teams will be talking to other teams players trying to get them to transfer every year. It will be chaos.

Then we need to just get rid of the rule. Not slighting Justin, but every kid has a story, every kid has a past, every kid has something or another going on. I sure did at that age. How can you say yes to one, but no to another? Typical NCAA...they're so unqualified to do what they've been tasked.

I understand that McKay had a rough childhood. And I also understand he ended up on a roster loaded with WRs. I hope the kid has a great career at KU, but waiving the rule just doesn't make sense.

It makes no difference to me, as a fan, whether or not McKay plays against the Sooners next season, it's about consistency of the rule.

Probably well over half of college football players come from rough backgrounds, the NCAA can't make waivers for every player that had a tough childhood and "lost his football instinct". If he needs to get closer to home and recover his football instinct, then a year away from football (while still being a scholarship student at KU) shouldn't matter. He'll still get two years to play the game he loves and the game so many others don't get the opportunity to play.

I hope things work out for Justin, but I don't think waiving the transfer rule is the right move.

Why should they waive this rule for this player? Alot of kids realize they are far away from home especially when they have family issues, but why should they make an exception for this guy who couldnt get on the field this year or most likely the rest of his time at OU?
