Jerry and Tim you are absolutely correct!! Many universities and collleges have so much invested that 4 or 5 home games won't make the money that they have projected or expect their football program to bring in for them. Greed and Money has destroyed our education system. State and colleges and universities that used to be nonprofit institutions are now exclusively about turning a profit. In the late 70s and early 80s an individual's total cost for a 4 year degree was between 8 and 10 thousand. It is a shame and a disgrace what it costs a young person born in this country to acquire a college degree today. There are some that believe that increased revenue is a win win situation and there is no need for limits. Greed and Money destroyed the NBA the NFL and division 1 basketball. It now is on the brink of destroying college football. Money and greed brought about expanded television coverage. It resulted in expansion of the number of schools allowed to become D1 football programs which as watered down the level of play of D1 college football. Recruiting has become like wall street. This is why it is so hard for teams to have depth on both sides of the ball.

With a 12 game schedule OU has to have 6 home games and 1 neutral site game (Dallas) and 5 away games. That is the minimum for the fans and the money OU is able to make on home games. You don't build a stadium with only 5 home games and certainly not 4. If they could they would come up with 7 home games, 1 Dallas game, and 4 away games. That is what a lot of the big money programs are going to with the money to be made in college football. This is especially true with the new revenue sharing program for the TV deals in the Big XII. Home games became more important for revenue generation.

Okay...I've worked it over and here's what I've come up with...ugly as it is...

And DON'T shoot the messenger....I KNOW OU ALWAYS opens with a home game, but there's no way around it this year, unless we get someone else to change their schedule.

This is a rough draft and is a pretty formidable schedule for 2012.

This is what we have to work with, based on what's out there at fbsschedules.com:

9/1 TCU Away
9/8 Rutgers New Jersey
9/15 West Virginia Away
9/22 Kansas State Home
9/29 OPEN DATE
10/6 Texas (RRR) Dallas
10/13 Kansas Home
10/20 Texas Tech Away
10/27 Notre Dame Home
11/3 OPEN DATE
10/10 Central Florida Away
10/17 Iowa State Away
10/24 Baylor Home
12/1 Oklahoma State Home

What sucks (partly) is that the Rutgers game will NOT be at a neutral site, but not as nuetral as the RRR. Unless they allow OU to have half the stadium as is the practice in Dallas....I just don't see 40,000 OU fans making the trip for a medium game.

Got a better scenario? I'd like to get anyones ideas on what we can expect in 2012.

Jerry, I think you are right if and when Mack gets the football program turned around. Texas made a bad deal with it's network...not many providers carry it. OU's proposed deal is better...it will actually be in more homes if I understand it correctly. The LNH may come to be an elephant on UT's back....it has definitely given clear signals that at some point in the near future it will go independent. What happens when the BCS changes the criteria for bowls and it's NC playoff scheme. At that point being Ina conference is better than on the outside looking in...there is little room for error for independents to advance to BCS bowls or the NC....no matter what your name is...

OU will take the road of caution next year....it has no other choice ....too much to risk to do other wise...

When Texas Tech became a team that was nationally recognized under Leach they played a very easy schedule to avoid injuries, run up total offense and wins. Hit hurt them when they had to play two tough games back to back or a competitive teams on the road. It is like first time I walked onto the practice field as a freshman in college. Trying to adjust to everybody being as athletic, or even better than you is a huge adjustment to make. We play an easier schedule now before conference games begin than we used to and we have more injuries. The better teams that finish strong at the end of the season have depth on both sides of the ball, ave a good running game.

Still hoping for the Rutgers game. As a Sooner living in NY, it would be great to have a game right across the river. Having FSU in Norman would be good too, so long as we could get a win. I think Sept 8th would be worrisome though. I would prefer the Defense to have more time to adjust to Mike and Landry to have more time to get comfortable with all the new talent at WR.
