Noon update: Sooners close class with JUCO RB Williams

CAMPUS CORNER — Oklahoma finished its 2012 recruiting class the way it started it, by signing a pair of junior college players.

The additions of receiver Courtney Gardner of Sierra College in California and running back Damien Williams of Arizona Western brought the Sooners’ total to 25 signees. Only Florida tight end Laith Harlow‘s is outstanding. Harlow is recovering from a back injury.

The athleticism of Gardner and Williams has been very highly regarded. Both have good size for their respective positions. Gardner is 6 foot 3 and 215 pounds. Williams is 6 foot 1 and 215 pounds.

The players become the fifth and sixth junior college players in the class. They join defensive back Kass Everett, tight end Brannon Green and defensive end Chaz Nelson, who all enrolled in January. This week, offensive lineman Will Latu committed, before Gardner and Williams’ decision.

ESPN reporter that Gardner, originally pledged to Arkansas, committed Tuesday night to the Sooners. Williams was choosing between OU, Texas Tech and Arizona State.

Who knows why a local kid would sign with Ark? Maybe the thought of playing in the No.1 college conference was more challenging. Who knows. One thing we do know about the young man, he wasn’t impressed with what Stoops told him, and he keeps his word.

Judge=Idiot.

Perhaps Donovan Roberts just relishes going away from home, but not too far away, to play in the SEC in an offense where a single running back is likely to be more utilized than at OU or OSU? OU and OSU are not for everyone. I surmise he traveled to Arkansas, liked his visit, felt comfortable, and made a decision not based on dislikes or perceptions, but what he felt was best for him. Good luck to him.

Good point…the style of offense that OU and OSU run is not for everyone. Great if you are a QB or receiver or a very versatile RB like DeMarco Murray.

theres a need to exspand the offense and add every play that every school scored on us in order for our defense to reconize and know by heart how to defend. and scored on us means first downs and plays that moved the ball down the field.We need to add the wishbone&T formations of our two greatest coaches and before the last one leaves this earth.we do not have a running game,it’s not a running game until we put up 300 yards a game on every team we play this 2012 year.Defensively let Kish run it the first 50yards his way,and Mike his way, the last 50.
