Report: Kish has accepted OU LBs job
CAMPUS CORNER — Was already working on a short story saying Tim Kish could soon officially become Oklahoma’s choice to replace Brent Venables and coach the team’s linebackers when a reporter from Phoenix spoke with Kish.
Here’s the short story I have filed.

NORMAN – Oklahoma is zeroing in on Tim Kish as its choice to replace Brent Venables as the team’s linebackers coach, and two sources said Tuesday an announcement could soon be on the way.
Kish is currently at OU, according to a Tuesday afternoon tweet from a Fox Sports reporter in Phoenix. She said she had spoken with Kish and he said he had accepted the position, vacated last week when Venables left after 13 years to become Clemson’s defensive coordinator.
Kish, 57, was thought to be the most natural fit all along, since he had worked extensively with new OU defensive coordinator Mike Stoops at Arizona. After Stoops was fired as head coach in October, Kish served as the Wildcats’ interim coach. He served as the team’s defensive coordinator prior to that.
The Stoopses had considered a few other candidates, including former Ole Miss and South Carolina defensive coordinator Tyrone Nix. Nix, upon a recommendation from Steve Spurrier, was here interviewing Saturday for the position.

did anybody ask tramel? did he say this was a ‘big-balls’ move or is this just a bend over situation berries?
We needed a coach who could recruit kids in the southeast. Unfortunately we blew it and went the other way. Unfortunately we won’t be able to compete with the top tier of the SEC for a long time to come.
Jerry short term this was my fear. The larger issue is what will this move do to this program long term?? Was the move worth it?? Seems to be moving us in a direction that has allot of uncertainty and down a road that Texas took. It hit them pretty hard the past 4 or 5 years. Looking at their recruiting thus far this year Texas seems to be recovering but really hurt the program the past few years?????
They way this is working out you wonder at what point in the season did Bob know he was going to make changes on the defensive staff?? At what point was the defensive staff aware that there was going to be major changes to the staff. Did it have anything to do with the level of play the last four or five games? Was it just by chance that Mike and both Kish ended up at OU. Allot happened in such a short time at a pace that just happen to all fall in to place very convenient for some and so inconveniently for others. The way way the pages are turning it is starting to smell fishy. The uncertainty of it all seems to have allot of would be Sooners looking for greener pastures.
Hope Kish is as good as billed…I know one thing. … If Mike and Kish are smart, they will start looking at the schedule soon and hopefully will not just focus on 2-3 games. Mike had 2 undefeated regular seasons at OU… Bob has only had 3. The other one came the following year with a Heisman QB.
OU got to the NC in 2008 through the back door in many folks’ eyes. Undefeated seasons don’t happen without great defenses. It seems that we always had something new on D in every game in those years. I think one of the issues with our defensive scheme was we had become too predictable in predictable games where we were big favorites.
Hopefully the change on D will bring a fresh look at how we game plan. And hopefully the offense will balance and complement the D. Seems we just either quit thinking about how to use clock management or over thought how to use it. Gotta get back to the details that made OU so successful.
If Mike Stoops and Kish were that good they would still be at ASU. I still think it better to hire up and coming coaches who can connect with the recruits as position coaches instead of warmed over failures at other programs. But coaching is an inbred profession of looking out for friends and family.
Zona is not OU…they don’t have the resources nor do they draw the talent…can’t compare the two schools and what the coaches did. It is like saying teachers at a local junior college have the same kind of students that are at Harvard. BIG difference. Give a JUCO professor the same talent as the Harvard prof and he can be successful, too. Maybe even more since the JUCO prof has had to learn to work in different ways to make kids successful. Mike and Kish should be very successful at OU. They have done more with less.
Looks like Brock sniffed out that fishey story…something had to be in the works to get Mike and Kish before bowl season started. I just wonder where BV would have ended up had Clemson not had a beat down….
We stumbled over here by a different web address and thought I might as well check things out. I like what I see so i am just following you. Look forward to looking at your web page again.
Hi there would you mind sharing which blog platform you’re working with? I’m looking to start my own blog in the near future but I’m having a tough time choosing between BlogEngine/Wordpress/B2evolution and Drupal. The reason I ask is because your layout seems different then most blogs and I’m looking for something completely unique. P.S My apologies for getting off-topic but I had to ask!

With OU losing another commit to OSU and possibly more to come, the OU coaches had better start contacting everyone to make sure they are still coming. Another fallout from the hiring or Mike Stoops. I guess this hiring shows OU is committed to continue its recruiting in Las Vegas and the San Diego area. I still don’t see the OU defense any better next year than it was this year, and that was disappointing to say the least.
