No doubt, the staff Stoops has now is not the staff he started with. His staff is raided annually. The program has already been through several transformations. Look at the Leach offense....changed with Mangino...little Q was a difference maker...ninja receiver formations....Heuple even carried the ball. Then Chuck 3rd and Long with Hybyl and the re-invention of Jason White - a prolific offense aided by Adrian Peterson and a smash mouth run game. Next up KW. Another OC that believed in running the ball though the run game changed to throwing to backs out of the backfield.....like De Marco Murray...KW had the greatest OU QB to work with ....Bradford...but he also had great receivers, TE, and decent RBs. New OC Heuple....green OC....has worked with some of the best OCs in the business. Great signal caller as QB...a playmaker who would not be denied in 2000....played smart football. We love him at OU...but he is green. He has to learn how to use all of his weapons. He cannot just depend on the fact OU has more talent and should win. He cannot keep a game plan that does not work after a quarter and a half. OU won a NC in 2000 because they were great at making game time adjustments....not half-time adjustments. If the game plan wasn't working in the 2nd quarter, the coaches made changes ....on offense and defense. The action on the sidelines nowadays doesn't seem to show that unless it is a big time game OU is playing. There seems to be less urgency until after halftime for all concerned. Teams are going to lose some games they shouldn't when that happens. My fear with Heuple is we become too much Leach oriented and not enough balance. Teams who cannot run the ball, won't win all games they should. That is what happened at OSU. The OSU game was about poor offense...poor offensive game plan...and execution.

Heuple has a lot to prove with Iowa and next year....the offense has 2 directions it could go. He has decide the direction soon.

Nuked in that Haygood quit and is trying to come back?? Nuked in that Hanna is graduating?? Is Ratterree graduating, too?? We are recruiting a couple of TEs. And we can always take athletic linemen and turn them into TEs. So, I am not quite sure what nuking the TE means. The TE has had a prominent place in Stoops's offenses. Can't see an offense with one or 2.

The QB position will be the interesting one. Who will leave when Jones comes back. Hope Jones doesn't return. He's not the guy to get it done. No ability to make plays with his feet. Poor red zone performance. In the OSU game, it started at the 40. No running skills. It takes all the above to be a big time college QB. Jones is a one dementional QB. Stoops has more problems than just who will play QB. He's first got to find some big time coaches to teach the skills to play at the level OU fans expect. Every season he tends to be more like John Blake. Smash mouth football has been a no show for the last 8 seasons.

Keith does anybody know the reality of why Brandon is transferring?? All I have read is that he needs to be closer to his family or would like to??? More may come out after the bowl game. It has been strange that more information about the talk of him transferring has not been released.

I was not aware that Finch had gotten in trouble. I stated in a previous blog that it seemed as if Finch was in Stoop's dog house and then this article explained why it seemed that something had happened. The question is how will Bob handle the situation?? I will say I admire that Stoops places teaching student athletes about life above winning football games. Although it was surprising that one of Stoops's players was allowed to have a bleached stripe on the top of his head through out the season. Millard is tremendous but seemed to run out of gas last week when used more consecutively than he had in previous games. It will be interesting to see what lies ahead for Bell after this year. If Jones comes back will they find another way to utilize Bell?? How frustrated is Bell at this point?? The buzz when he was recruited he would be the next Bradford but Jones has played so well because the oline as given him tremendous protection and Jones has proved to be an excellent throwing QB provided that he is not under pressure. The problem is when you play against defenses that are good enough to play the numbers game and Jones's has somebody in his face he looks like a 7th grade QB. Hopefully Jones will get over this and learn when to get out of the pocket, throw on the run like Bradford could, or learn to take the sack when it is too late to throw it away.
