Nothing 'questionable about the chop block call itself. The correction is that it wasn't Finch who hit the guy first so the call maybe should have been on the O-lineman. Nevertheless the defender was engaged at about the same time by two blockers, with one on the lower legs, so the rule comes in to play, because the reason for it is to prevent injuries.

Travis, after more than 60 years as a fanatical supporter of OU football, I don't believe I've ever been as frustrated as I am this year. Both sides of the ball and, especially special teams, are poorly coached and game plans appear to be guesses, at best. Bob Stoops seems to be less emotionally involved than I've ever seen him as he strolls up and down the sideline gazing on the field as if he's a hundred miles away. Perhaps he's delegated so much coaching authority to his assistant coaches that he's essential connectivity. The defense is slow and inept--Baylor ran all over the field last night and blew past OU's cornerbacks, safeties, and linebackers as if they weren't even in the game. The offense has no rythm and no momentum--they've had trouble in the Red Zone for a couple of years, and even with the BellDozer option, linemen make stupid mistakes and cause penalties. The team--offense, defensed, and special teams--lack energy and enthusiasm. When was the last time OU's special teams block a punt or return a punt of kickoff for a touchdown--lousy coaching and clearly no sense of urgency. Special teams players, as well as linebackers, are consistently out of position and out of contol as they move toward the ball. There was no contain at all last night on Griffin after the first quarter. The defense starts out punishing Baylor's offense and, then, Brent Venables backs off to protect the "field." How'd that work out. Just pitiful planning and execution. The offense cannot find its identity, either. Landry Jones has been spectacular at times and midiocre, or worse, at other times. They can't run the ball with any consistency, and the offensive coaches don't seen to have any clue that Roy Finch is a good player, but Trey Miliard is huge and quick, too. Why can't he run from the tailback position on 3rd and 2. Josh Heupel, as wonderful as he was as a player, has no imagination or creativity--the offense plods along with the same old stuff. OSU seems to run the ball failrly well as does Texas Tech, Texas, and Kansas State. Are OU's coaches so arrogant that they can't learn from the successes if others. Baylor's defenders were faster that OU's, and you cannot convince me that OU's receivers are so inept that they can't break free at almost any point. They didn't last night. Even when they did, Jones was egregiously inaccurate, and receivers dropped balls they should have caught. OU's players lack "toughness." I've heard Bob Stoops talk so often about "our toughness, which has become a lament. OU could not stay on the same field as LSU or Alabama--teams that demonstate legitimate toughness. OU's coaches have lost their legitimacy as "big game" coaches. Josh H. is just learning, but there were a half dozen calls in last night's game that were "what the heck was that" plays. How many times does he call the rediculous "swing pass" to a back the goes without gain--happened at least three times last and wasted downs. This is not a team in transition, so it's very hard to accept the inconsistent play an slipshod defensive mindset. Travis Lewis and Tom Wort are great players, but they can't cover wide receivers, and they are consistently out of position in the middle of the field. I don't know how many times OU was caught with no linebacker ot safety in the middle of the field--they were caught out of position time and again, and they have been for the entire year, Neither side of the ball or special teams have a "game rhythm." Both sides of the ball spend "long seconds" looking over at the sideline to "get the call." Baylor was way ahead of OU last night running the offense, The offense ran 87 plays last night, and they have run more than 100. The offense is slow and plodding, and Josh H. seems content to "wait to get the play started." We have all seen the OU offense overwhelm the other team's defense by running 4,5, or sis plays without pause. The defense can't tackle anyone, and refusees to "hit" and "wrapup." What happened? This is UNBELIEVABLE...! So, as much as I love my Oklahoma Sooners, I am terribly disappointed in their play, attitude, lack of toughness, and unwillingness to sacrifice for the TEAM.

Bob won't be fired. In fact, according to his contract, he and his staff will get raises.
So far, this season is like last, only worse, in a sense. This has always been one of the side effects of being initially over rated. Makes fans, if they are not in touch with reality, suffer with co-dependency. Stoops hasn't fielded a real championship team in quite a few seasons. Last one was the '02 Rose Bowl team. Given a high ranking, based on the results of the previous season and returning starters is only 2/3 of the formula. The missing part at OU has become coaching and staff, accountability. Compare it to winning staffs and coaches.
