Sooners add another walk-on kicker
OU has added yet another preferred walk-on kicker.
Sherman (Texas) High School kicker Eric Hosek will be joining the Soooners this summer, the Sherman Herald Democrat reported.
Hosek’s mother, DeDe, told the Herald Democrat that an OU scout saw Hosek play against Texarkana High last fall and contacted Sherman coach Gary Kinne. Bob Stoops apparently reviewed Hosek’s highlight videos and extended him an invitation to join the program.
Hosek was also invited as a preferred walk-on by TCU and Tulsa .
Hosek received all-state, all-DFW area, Herald Democrat All-Texomaland and all-district honors for both the 2009 and 2010 football seasons.

The more, the merrier. He’s got enough kickers to start his own basketball team and before the summer is over, at the rate he is going, he’ll have enough for a baseball team.

Midway through the season they will be complaining about a shortage of players at certain positions while having 5-7 kickers on scholorship.
If he can kick it a mile, then we have one of the best defensive weapons we can get……the other side will have to go 80 each time. Based upon our kick coverage over the last two years….he’d be one of the best weapons we could have!
Dr.P OU is playing in stillwater again because of NU and CU leaving the conference. Some teams would have more conference home games than others. Tech comes to Norman again this year.

I see nothing negative about this. Our kicking game could improve and he is walking on. We are the defeding Big 12 champs and one of the favorites to win it all this year. Why do so many of our fans always find something to be negative about?
Jerry, There’s always someone who thinks they can run a program better than the highly successful coach we have in place. Cynical fans are fans we don’t need or listen to or they’re trolls trying to stir up trouble. If the kid can play, then a preferred walk-on is the way to go. Jimmy is deadly from inside 30 yards. What we need is someone who can kick accurately from any distance and this kid might be the one. Michael Hunnicutt is a reshirt freshman and nailed two from 40 and 36 in the spring game. So maybe we’re on the right track.
Good. Jimmy has a nice FG % inside the 30, but if you watch him kick, he has gotten verrrry lucky with many of those.
