Retiring jersey's is problematic in another way, besides Bob's comment about not having enough numbers left to play (does the NCAA allow 3-digit numbers?)- Who's NAME do you put on a jersey when you retire the number? A couple obvious problems with this: OK, so you retire 14 for Bradford... but what about Heupel? Arguably, Bradford would never have worn an OU jersey at all if not for Heupel - the "pioneer" of the OU passing game. What if Bob had started Brandon Daniels and been a run-first offense that first year, and won like he did with the pass-oriented offense? Would Bradford have come to Oklahoma to run the option? Another possibility: #20 - Billy Sims, right? What about Rocky Calmus? #18 - Jason White or Jermaine Gresham? #28 - Adrian Peterson, Antonio Perkins or George Cumby? Even the obvious Lee Roy Selmon for #93 might get some argument from Gerald McCoy fans. Too many great players to retire numbers. Better to honor all of them the way we do around campus, and those of us who bleed Sooner crimson don't need jersey's hanging to remember our favorite players. BOOMER SOONER!

You know this is a hard decision when a guy like Adrian Peterson isn't even mentioned. I agree with Oklahoma's policy way too many good players, especially when they just keep coming. By the end of the season DeMarco Murray could be in this conversation, passing Owen tontight.

In reply to the comment by Johnny Harrison, if you just so happen to retire the number of Josh Heupel then Sam would have never been able to wear number 14. I think I OU not retiring numbers is a good thing and emphasizes team over individual efforts, regardless of how great those efforts were.
