Man, what a bunch of finger pointing and whining about a young Oklahoma team that will most likely turn things around by season’s end. Sure, I did not like watching the way our defense morphed into swiss cheese, but my guess is that the coaches will plug any holes before we play Texas. They had better do so. The Sooners rank pretty high in my book and I have been a loyal supporter for half a century. I am not about to toss in the towel after one bad game. As for Doyel and his lack of imaginative sports writing, words simply escape me. Can we not come up with something better than the word, “stupid”, to describe a football team and their coaches? It is so easy to throw everything into a box and put a label on it without diagnosing the problems from every angle. Stupid is as stupid does.

The tackling does leave a lot to be desired, but, a lot of ranked teams have struggled this season, and it is very hard to argue with 4 and 0. Many opposing teams look at a game against OU like their bowl game, because they know it will be their only time on national TV. Is it any surprise that they play just as hard as they can, and excellent players like Pead, and well-coached teams like Air Force will have their successes. The Sooners will only get better, and sportswriters like this doofus will only get worse.

I hate to agree with a guy named douchenozzle, although I do crack up at the name….

The article was dead wrong on those two facts, and a few others. Norvell was right to be angry, but at the same time as a coach on this level you have to pull up short of getting a penalty.

However, he is dead right on alot of it. We do need to play smarter, and the tackling, stupid penalites, inability to fall on an onside kick, etc all begins with the coaching. We need more football players and less strong, fast, athletic players prone to frequent mental shut-downs.

Completely agree. OU is fielding it’s stupidest team in a long time. They have tons of talent, but constant mental lapses have them playing close games with inferior opponents. This guy is right on the money.

Right or wrong, it’s hard to take seriously anything this piker has to say. He seems to make a career out of attacking OU. In fact, he shows himself to be every bit as stupid as he claims OU is in at least two instances: (1) he claims Bob Stoops was the one who pushed Jay Norvell away, when it was Cale Gundy; and (2) he somehow argues that the evidence was not conclusive, which it was, that Pead’s elbow and forearm touched the ground on that one big play that was called largely back.

What was the flag on Norvell for? Yelling at the refs or touching the Cincy player?

If touching the player, then it was deserved. And I would l ike to know what Stoops did about it? BUt I would then ask the question, where was the ref that he did not see the late hit?

If yelling at the ref – it did not appear to be anything like what the Cncy coach was doing the entire game – every call, every time a ref ran in front of him he was working his jaw.

Before you mouth off and call people names, you are the one that needs to learn the rules. The receiving team does NOT have to wait for the kick to go 10 yards; they can attempt to recover it anytime they want at any distance. It is only the kicking team that must wait to legally recover and retain the ball only after it travels 10 yards. Did you jump on that bandwagon at Kmart?
