Fullback/tight end Trey Millard impressing

OU coach Bob Stoops has raved about the incoming freshmen class but after Monday’s practice singled out a player he feels isn’t being mentioned as prominently as he should — Trey Millard.

“He’s unheralded with this recruiting class because the position isn’t a guy who gets the headlines,” Stoops said. “But he’s probably one of the best athletes we got in this freshman class, his ability to run, his size and strength. He catches the ball great, really fluid.

“Trey is going to be a really good player for us. He does all of it well. You know we love those kind of guys. He’s as good as any we’ve had there coming in (to the program). Hopefully he continues to progress.”

As for other freshmen, Stoops said he primarily watches perimeter players in practice. In his session with the media on Monday Stoops said cornerback Aaron Colvin “has been outstanding,” linebacker Corey Nelson “has been excellent” and quarterback Blake Bell “continues to do very well.”

Because of his solid spring game, wide receiver Kenny Stills, who reported early, has received a lot of media hype. Offensive coordinator Kevin Wilson’s comment on Monday reminded fans that Stills, pardon the pun, “still has a long way to go.”

“He shows flashes but hasn’t played in a college game,” Wilson said. “Even though he had a nice spring game, and got a little pub, he has yet to make a play when it counts. He ran a five-yard curl route that was 10 yards short of where it should have been. We love him a lot. He’s doing well. He’s a young guy but he shows flashes.”

Tight end update
Wilson has mixed and matched junior tight ends Trent Ratterree and James Hanna with freshman Austin Haywood and sophomore Lane Johnson.

“That way there’s an old guy helping a young guy,” Wilson said. “It needs to be stronger blocking but we’re gaining. I asked (defensive end) Jeremy Beal how they’re doing and he said, ‘Better.’ Austin looks good. But young like Roy Finch, (he’s) still thinking a lot. But he looks like he knows how to play.”

Stars and more Stars. On paper, OU has more talent this year
than ever before. Like last year, year before and so on, etc.
On the field where the real game is played it will be a
different story. Ink and homer press won’t help. I guess
we can all see in about 3 weeks if you get pay-per-view. To
bad OU didn’t go to the SEC, the game would be on their network for FREE.

Stop being such a jackhole, judge. The bluest bloods of the SEC, defending national champ and preseason #1 Alabama, is playing their first game (San Jose State) on PPV.

BTW, the SEC doesn’t have its own network. If you are going to be negative at least do it without making stuff up.
