Landry Jones to regrow stache, Eric Mensik starting at RT

Quarterback Landry Jones attended OU Media Day without a mustache. That soon will change.

“I had a full beard yesterday,” Jones said. “I shaved for Media Day for my mom. She wanted me to look good in the pictures. (My girlfriend, OU women’s basketball star Whitney Hand) also likes me clean shaven. But I have to grow it back. Sooner nation needs the stache.”

Eric Mensik starting
Senior Eric Mensik, who started the final three games last season, one at tight end, two at offensive tackle, opens two-a-days as OU’s starting right tackle ahead of Cory Brandon, Jarvis Jones and Josh Aladenoye, offensive line coach James Patton said Friday.

Mensik was a tight end his entire career until late last season.

“If you had told me as a freshman I’d be playing on the o-line I’d have said you’re crazy,” Mensik said. “I came in as a freshman at 231. I’m 290 now. I’ve gained 60 pounds.”

Mensik said his gain-weight diet has included eating everything, including hamburgers, ice cream and candy. He quickly pointed out: “I also eat the good stuff like fruit. But I got to splurge a little because I had to gain the weight.”

i could careless about his stache, what the hell is that got too do with oklahoma football. he better do something right early, or bob stoops will have the crowd on him. he better replace him if he gets in a slump again and stares down the reciever thats a dead give-away on defense. best man wins the way i look at it and it all starts with the quarterback on offense. stoops wake up and make some changes if you have too get these guys up. ou-johnny.

Way to go Landry, with something like the Moustache Mafia in your back pocket you’d be crazy not too! Boomer Moustache Sooner!

@OU-Johnny: I’m assuming you did not attend OU.. always easy to tell. Nonetheless, Stoops knows what is going on and what he is doing. He doesn’t get paid $3mil+ to keep a guy in that isn’t good. Obviously there is a reason Landry stays in the games.. he’s the best even when he isn’t playing great. Give the guy a break. He did a hell of a lot better than a lot of guys out there. You are just another one of those fans that “knows” the game and can coach better than anyone out there. Just keep on going to the games and yelling at Stoops the whole time, what a joke.

you guys hungry for news? lip hair? come on now! just play football barefooted, upside down whatever. just play football.

you guys better chill…Landro (stache or not) is here for a REASON. None of this wimpy crybaby stuff either. He’s a champion, and a fine Christian. No Worries!

OU Johnny needs to realize the Bradford on the road his first year did the same thing as Jones did. I think OU Johnny needs to realize that young kids grow and learn and that Bradford learned and got better and his road play improved. So will Jones.

Jones says the Sooner Nation needs the Stache. The Sooner Nation Could care less about the Stache. VERY VERY WRONG! SOnner Nation Needs! Victories, Wins over TEXAS, BIG 12 Trophy and A BCS Trophy. He need to focus. His pass are so weak. Look at the spiral as it come out of his arm weak. None of them hit the WR’s in stride. His stats on the Last 7 games remind me of Rhett Bomar! Jones, the Sooner Nation Needs “”~SOONER MAGIC~”" Back. Jones I have four WORDS FOR YOU! DREW ALLEN or BLAKE BELL! These Guys can ran and most of all have Cannons for arms. Forget the damn Stache Crap and get Focused or You Can Focus looking good standing on the Sidelines.
Its only a matter of time Before Bell or Allen Take the rains you watch.

Ou-Johnny is a douche bag!! A redshirt freshman was thrust into the starting job with no experience and no reps. Landry will be fine. With last year to learn and an improved o-line situation he will thrive.

Yeah Coach Stoops, you should totally listen to Johnny, the same guy who declared on this very website in a typical jumble of grammatical and spelling errors that Sherri Coale should go back to coaching high school… a couple months before she took OU to a second straight Final Four. Johnny please stop posting, your ramblings are incoherent and painful to decipher.

What is a fine Christain? Is there anything else but? My wife hates the stashe I agree makes him look whimpy. I do believe he’ll do really good on the field. If it wasn’t for the Rangers I’d be walking the floor waiting for the first game.

lip hair, that was funny! i believe we’re in good hands with Landry, and with some significant reps Drew Allen can play some ball also. i do hope and expect them to get the second team QB some time on the field, so someone is not just thrown in, if needed, like Landry was.

Stoopsy baby.

[...] Say it ain’t so, Mr Jones. [...]

budbarrybob, you are the douche bag yourself. we shall see how landry plays out, hopefully he does. being a soph. he has no-excuses now buddy. bet you would never say that too my face iam built like ronnell lewis. iam a diehardsooner fan win or lose. just telling it like it is, i wish the kid the best of luck. if not and he struggles coach stoops needs too pull him for some fresh blood.

all landry haters are idiots. if your o line doesnt protect u it doesnt matter whos quarterbacking . most of the people that make these comments never played football .

This is great. He absolutely should grow out the stache. This is still college football, these guys are STUDENT athletes, not pros. Last year the “stache” became a sensation on campus for the students and fans alike. College football is big in Oklahoma, and it means a lot to the pride of the alumni and fans, but we can’t lose perspective that this is still amateur athletics. The “stache” made Landry a hit, endearing to the fans, and probably has little impact on his play, so instead of complaining about his “focus” (seriously??? why is that affected??) realize the fun in it and let the KID go out and enjoy himself.

I can not thank you more than enough for the content on your web site. I know you set a lot of time and energy into all of them and really hope you know how deeply I enjoy it. I hope I can do exactly the same for another individual someday.
