Q&A with Mark Clayton

Several former Sooners came back to Norman to watch Oklahoma’s pro day Tuesday. Among those was former OU wide receiver great Mark Clayton, now a starter with the Baltimore Ravens.

Clayton took some time during pro day to chat:

What did you think of the big trade you guys pulled snagging all-pro wide receiver Anquan Boldin?
I thought it was awesome. Anquan, his character speaks for itself. His play speaks for itself. He’ll come in and be a tremendous acquisition for us and a great player

Receivers want the ball, but how pleased are you to have another playmaker in your offense?
You have to understand it takes a corps collectively to make plays offensively and the stronger your corps is, the more versatility you have, the more ability you have you can do a lot more as an offense.

You aware that Ryan Broyles broke several of your school records last year?
I hope he breaks them all. He’s an exceptional player. I’ve talked to him and tried to encourage him to continue to grow and get better and always compete against yourself.

There’s a chance OU might have the first and second players in the draft. How would that reflect on the program?
Those two guys got the work in. They’ve done whatever they needed to do to get the work in. They dominated and were able to make themselves the best of the best in college football.

I feel for Clayton. Playing with the QBs he has had in Baltimore have made people forget he actually has skills. I often wish he would get a chance for a fresh start with a new team.

One of my favorite Sooners of all time. I have been a Sooner fan for 33 years. kg

I agree with Josh, Clayton got on the worst team for a WR in football. They are getting better. kg

I agree that Clayton is very good but is going to get less playing time. Maybe KC can get him! He did drop an important pass this year. But he is an all-time sooner.
