McCoy takes over the No. 1 spot

ESPN’s Todd McShay released his newest mock draft (ESPN Insider), and on top is a bit of a surprise.

Gerald McCoy.

The Oklahoma junior defensive tackle grabbed the No. 1 spot from Nebraska’s Ndamukong Suh, who McShay tabbed as the No. 2 pick.

If the pair ends up being the top two picks in the draft, it will be the first time since 1999 that the top two picks played the same position. In 1999, Tim Couch, Donovan McNabb and Akili Smith, all quarterbacks, were the top three picks.

McCoy is one of four Oklahoma players McShay projects to be drafted in the first round.

Other Sooners on McShay’s mock draft:

8. OL Trent Williams, Oakland Raiders.
9. QB Sam Bradford, Buffalo Bills
21. TE Jermaine Gresham, Cincinnati Bengals

who gives a f*!? Nebraska still beat the gooners.

McSay won’t do the picking. His opinion an 50cents as they say..l.

Who gives a fu* what you say Jason. NU barely beat a decimated OU team..on their home field! Besides what does that have to do with the price of tea in china regarding this blog?

thank you for being true sport writers by keeping up with successful young men that recieve their just rewards.

Jason, when was the last time Nebraska won a conference title?

As Stoops has said, these things don’t mean anything. It’s all speculation based on needs. Not everyone goes with needs or gives the same players the same grades. Besides, the columbine hasn’t even taken place yet. I would love to see the Big 12 with so many 1st round picks, but the chances of it happening are slim. AND McShay said yesterday that Bradford would go in the Top 5. He seems too conflicted to me. I don’t even pay attention to ESPN projections anymore. It’s ridiculous.

what is a columbine?

And how does McShay seem conflicted?

Now remember folks, before all you kids start bashing Suh and putting
McCoy on a pedestal, OU was rated in the top-5 ESPN before the season.
I really can’t fathom McCoy going before Suh. If that happens, I’d like to be
next in line to pick. Suh is way to good to get passed over. Everytime he
came on the field he made a highlight reel and took the offensive tackle
to the wood-shed.

I just hope he’s right that Bradford will be going somewhere other than the Dedskins.

McCoy against neb. 3 tackles , 1 fumble recovery .
Suh 4 tackles , 1 pass broken up. Both pretty even performances , both great players it really doesn’t matter who goes 1 or 2 . As far as NU beating OU , Nebraska was fortunate Landry Jones made a bad pass that was returned to the OU 1yd line and they got an impressive 1 yd td Drive . Ou’s defense was much more impressive the whole game OU-325 total yards and 23 1st downs , Nu-170 total yards and 7 1st downs , really Nu fans with all our injuries we still should have beaten you and would have except for 5 turnovers .

Everytime??? I guess that Texas Tech game didn’t count?
And Rocko . . . You know that even thought they choked away a W in the B12C game they almost had the V if not for Fexas being gifted 1 lousy second.

I am a Sooner fan and wish this was correct. But no way. Suh, in my opinion, should have won the Heisman. He was the best player in college football this year. McCoy is great but…….

I’m surprised that so many people are criticizing Gerald McCoy being projected to go higher than Ndamukong Suh. Both are very, very good at what they did, but both also have different approaches to how they play the game. Suh is stronger and is a better run stopper than McCoy, however, McCoy is much more explosive off of the line is scrimmage, and is easily the better pass rusher. He is a more polished, all-around prospect than Suh. That’s not to say Suh is bad, he seems to use the bull rush as his only pass rushing move and it works a ton, but he also tends to play high at times. McCoy is a penetrator while Suh is more of a read-and-react type of guy. Suh is a little more versatile but overall, both guys are very deserving of their rankings. I would rank them as the two best overall players, regardless of position, heading into this draft. Both should be strong contenders for 2010 Defensive Rookie of the Year honors.

Jason, you aren’t aloud to run smack. You were beaten by Iowa State……at home! With that your smack talking authority has been revoked!

For this year Suh was by far the most dominant lineman in the country. McCoy is good no doubt. However, I watched Suh dominate a banged up OU line, and a Texas line. I am an OU fan, my first pick is Suh. I think the guy should have won the Hiesman hands down.

This isn’t news. Who cares what ESPN says? And who cares about the other 42 players in the OU-Nebraska game? The only ones that matter in this conversation are Suh and McCoy. If you look at their season and career numbers, Suh is far better. If you look at the intangibles, Suh is better. And if you talk to anyone except that idiot McShay, Suh is better.

It doesn’t matter. He’ll have a better NFL career than McCoy anyway, whether he was picked first or second or 21st.

The top three Sooner picks all go to NFL purgatories! Lord, please don’t let that happen!

Suh is in a whole league above McCoy!

This guy is an idiot. Suh will absolutely, 100% go #1 and there’s no chance whatsoever that won’t happen. Suh is the most dominant defensive football player I have ever seen in college football since I started watching in around 1980. I don’t know what kind of crack pipe this guy’s smoking but there’s no way McCoy goes before Suh.

Jason, you cornhusker turds are hopeless. Your state is a tundra, your football team cannot score unless it starts at the other team’s one yard line, and the next time we meet it will be in Norman. Then, OU will stomp Nebraska into a mud hole. Can you say, “60+ points?”

Suh is just like the cornfuskers, OVERRATED!!!!!

McCoy is going to make a hell of a pro QB. He has a lot of outstanding leadership qualities. He also has the intensity that a lot of teams need from their QB.
