Ruffin McNeill will be ECU’s next head coach
Ruffin McNeill is set to be named the head football coach at East Carolina, a source at ECU has told the Daily Reflector.
A 5 p.m. Board of Trustees meeting will confirm the hiring made by ECU athletic director Terry Holland.
McNeill, 51, replaces coach Skip Holtz, who left the ECU program last week to become the new head coach at South Florida.
McNeill, an ECU alum, most recently served as Texas Tech’s defensive coordinator.
He beat out Oklahoma offensive coordinator Kevin Wilson, who was Holland’s other finalist. Wilson interviewed with Holland in Greenville, N.C.

Yay, more stupid comments from “jadams”. The day just isn’t as bright without reading a stupid comment from “jadams” or a number of other “experts” who post on the web.
Oh yeah, Bobby Boy is really fading into the sunset of upper echelon programs. His name is the first one to come up for every high profile job that comes open every year. It’s amazing the stupidity of some people who post one here.
if stoop’s name lost so much luster, why was his name the 1st name that came up when charlie weiss was fired? I think it was a reflection on wilson than it was on stoops.
I think Ruffin got the job because he is an ECU alum. I’m sure it had nothing to do with redzone efficiency or anything else. Both are very good at what they do.
Awe shucks, Wilson and his grade school offense isn’t pack’n and bag’n yet. Sponge Bobbit, two ex sooners need jobs. Go get Leach and Mangino so that OU can beat Texas and top tier programs in BCS bowls.
Hey, jadams, would you mind sharing your coaching experience
with the rest of us. You must have quite a resume to be able
to trash somebody like Bob Stoops. You mentioned not being
able to score against the likes of Texas, BYU and Nebraska. I guess that having an offensive line that had experience
matching the fans in the 4th row of seats means much. And
that line decimated by injuries. And losing Jermain Gresham
and Sam Bradford and having DeMarcus Murray injured a good
part of the year would not be considered in your argument.
Or the fact that NObody scored much against Nebraska with that pup of a nose guard they had. What I find amazing about
last year’s Sooner squad is that they with all the injuries
they had, they were a field goal kicker away from losing
only one game. They only played one really bad game and that
was against Tech. … That with all the injuries, Bob Stoops
never once stooped (sorry for the pun) to making excuses
other than they didn’t execute like they should. He’s a class act. A Class act. It’s a lot easier to get to the top
than it is to stay there, and I think Stoops has done one
heck of a job at keeping OU in position to be number one
EVERY year. One might argue this call or that, but he’s a
championship coach and a real role model of a person. Jadams, sir, you’re just spitting in the wind. …
Jadams is problably Adam James from Texas Tech! He’s upset with everyone! His Daddy has tried to bring down not one but two football programs!
I’ll give it to jadams, just when I think he can’t make himself look any stupider, he comes through! What an idiot, what a loser!
Dumb comments with no substance I thought were only made on ‘Short Horn’ boards. However, jadams disproves that point… He’s dumb and dumber all in one.
As Wilson would say, “I have a great idea, let’s run it up the middle. It hasn’t worked all day but we’ll surprise em’”.
Congratulations to Coach McNeill ! The good old boy racists at Texas Tech really blew it by not hiring him.
I hope tech finishes last in the South next year and is humiliated by the big XII powers for years to come.
I think race had a lot to do with McNeill not getting his shot at Texas Tech especiall since we saw those kids rally behind him when they beat Michigan State. I do understand the Tommy Tuberville hire however because it is a little more sexy and Tech has daydreams of taking over the Big XII south. McNeill will be a beast at ECU, His ties to Texas along with those ties to a very underrated talent base in the Mid Atlantic area will help him at ECU…I will root for them. I can understand why he got the job over Kevin because he is an alumn….and because of that only.

I guess being the offensive co-ordinator of a so called, prolific offense, doesn’t
hold much water, or was it the fact that Bobby Boy is starting to fade into
the sunset of upper echelon programs due to the fact that he can’t win any
prime-time games and taking his assistants would be a non-profitable
move. “Hey, if OU can’t beat their main competition in conference, lose on
the road regularly, can’t win a BCS bowl, we need to look elsewhere”. Look
back at that “prolific” offense in the red-zone against Texas, Florida, BYU,
Neb., Miami, etc. would you hire an offensive co-ordinator from Stoops staff?
Would you hire the defensive co-ordinator from his staff and feel safe that you hired a winner? Remember there is Hundreds of Thousands of $$ riding
on your call.
