Signing Day Countdown: WR Sheldon McClain

Sheldon McClain
Position: Wide receiver
High School: Cibolo (Texas) Steele
Ht: 6-2
Wt: 175
Stars: 3
Rivals Rank: No. 99 WR in the nation
ESPN Rank: No. 22 WR in the nation
Breakdown: McClain is one of two true WR commitments in this class along Kenny Stills. But unlike Stills, McClain comes to OU as somewhat of a project. He caught only 38 balls combined his last three years of high school (11 in 2007, 27 in 2008 and 0 in 2009). McClain tore his ACL in September and missed his entire senior year.

Still, McClain brings a lot of upside. In his films, he actually resembles OU freshman Jaz Reynolds. McClain is about the same size as Reynolds, and has a similar gait, too.

McClain has enrolled early and will join the team during spring drills. That should help him regain a lot of what he lost from not playing last season.

McClain probably won’t help OU in 2010. But down the line, he seems to have what it takes physically to break into the starting lineup and become an impact downfield receiver.
