OU needs a new DE coach? How about Jim Jeffcoat?

It appears that Bob Stoops will be looking for a defensive ends coach by the end of the weekend.

Current ends coach Chris Wilson “anticipates” he will take the co-defensive coordinator/defensive line coach position at Mississippi State, where he was Thursday interviewing for the job.

Here’s a suggestion for Wilson’s replacement: Jim Jeffcoat.

The former Dallas Cowboy great is currently the defensive line coach at Houston under former Sooner assistant Kevin Sumlin. He also spent seven years as an assistant with the Dallas Cowboys.

Jeffcoat reportedly interviewed for the the same job at OU in 2005, but Stoops decided on Wilson, who was a former Sooner linebacker.

Jeffcoat, however, might be interested in interviewing again. His family lives in Plano, which is actually closer to Norman than Houston.

His daughter, Jacqueline, will be a freshman basketball player under Sherri Coale at OU next season.

His son, defensive end Jackson Jeffcoat, is the No. 2 prospect in the nation according to ESPNU. Jackson — who is also considering Houston (where his dad currently is), Arizona State (where his dad went to school), USC (which had a coaching change), Texas and OU — is scheduled to take an official visit to Norman next weekend.

Losing Chris Wilson probably hurts OU in the recruitment of Jackson.

Unless Wilson’s replacement is Jackson’s dad.

Note: It’s against the rules in men’s college basketball now to hire the associate of a recruit. But not college football.

too bad this rule wasnt in place when danny mannings dad got hired to work for larry brown at KU……he was a truck driver befor that

[...] That means Bob Stoops will need a new defensive ends coach. Gee, I wonder where he will look. Say, here’s an idea. [...]

Stoops hired Bishop Gorman High School coach to get his players, why not
Jeffcoat Sr., makes sense. Guess nobody wants BV with all the head jobs
and assistants open, don’t blame them with a track record on defense like
he’s established. One thing about Jeffcoat, he’s not one of Bobby Boy’s
crony buddies, thats good. Put Shipp and Jeffcoat together, let them work out
a Switzer level defense, lock BV in the electrical closet at Owen Field with
the James Boy, problem solved. Great defense, without a bunch of stupid
hand signals.

Nice Picture, but thats not Jeffcoat, it’s Leon Lett……..

jadams, you are a certified idiot.

Whether Jackson comes to Norman or not we should try and get the elder Jeffcoat anyway. He’s gotta be a great recruiter!

On a side note, I can’t believe Tennessee hired that “daddy’s boy” instead of scooping up Kevin Sumlin like they should have. Seriously, this guy had a losing record at La. Tech for crying out loud!! Guess the “good ‘ol boys” are still in charge of the SEC.

I agree 100% with you Patrick. Even bigger than getting Jeffcoat (player) here. Getting his dad would pay long term dividends as a recruiter in the Houston area where we don’t do as well.
