Once again, OU loses a bowl game. Once again, Stoops will get a raise. AND, once again, we will see a tuition increase next year!!!
Play calling is the demise again. Why did we not call the plays like we did all year long. We made it work on the 1st TD drive. This was very much a case of being out-coached. I am sick of getting there and not finishing against a Top 10 team–not a Top 1 team. Texas was better than Florida.

I FEEL BAD FOR THE PLAYERS, THEY PLAYED HARD. THE FLORIDA COACHES MADE THE ADJUSTMENTS AT HALFTIME FOR THE 2ND HALF AND THEY MADE THE BIG PLAYS WITH OUTSTANDING PLAYERS. I DON’T UNDERSTAND SOME OF OUR PLAY CALLS RIGHT BEFORE HALFTIME WHEN WE GET IT CLOSE. THE OFFENSE SEEMED SLOW TONIGHT AND NOT IN THE SAME FLOW AS IT WAS DURING THE REGULAR SEASON. why did Sam take 25-30 seconds between plays when we got the ball past mid-field? Just stupid coaching and non-belief that we could just line up and beat them. Poor poor job of coaching.
OU loses to Texas by 10 and to Florida by 10. Texas vs Florida would have been a heck of a game. Should have been a game. Bet OU figures out some way to back into it again next year. 3rd time would be charm.

It’s a good thing for Florida that they were playing Choklahoma instead of Texas. The Longhorns would have beaten Florida by 20 points. 45-35!
SEC is just too good. We have no defense, they are right. Texas barely wins. Ole Miss beats TTech. OK State loses. Then OK loses. Our top four teams, sorry performances. Need to concentrate on defense to have a chance against such a strong conference as the SEC!

This is the best our “coaching” and “talent” and “recruiting” can come up with? “Oh, but we’ve been to four NCs in the last ten years.” Wow. Texas is probably the best team in our conference, but about on par with Ohio State and Penn State. That ain’t so great. Ole Miss dominated Texas Tech, who scored the first 14 points on turnovers. Coud have been much worse! And that is the SEC’s 3rd or 4th best team!
I believe ou more than doubled their run total against an SEC team compared to Texas. Also, Texas put more pressure on Bradford with their front line than the gators.

Honestly, you cannot hang this game on Sam. He wasn’t perfect, but only one of the picks was remotely his problem. Iglesias had the second one in his mitts. Catch a ball! Sam is NOT Jason White. He will have a career on Sunday.
And this was supposed to be ou’s year. Come oct ou’s going to get some payback. Bradford better leave cuz it will be nasty for him and the sooners in the cotton bowl.
I still love my Sooners!!!! The players played hard. It just wasn’t meant to be. It was definitely a painful loss. Especially after going to the Fiesta Bowl and having to listen to those Texas fans chant “OU Sucks”. I don’t think Stoops leaving is the answer. We had alot of painful losing season after Switzer left. As painful as January has been, I would hate to see Stoops leave. We will get thru it. BOOMER SOONER!!!!!
The Oklahoma defense came to play but the offense didn’t show up. All that bad karma from leaving Bradford in for 4 quarters to run up the scores finally caught up with Stoops. And what was that STUPID deal in the first half where they’d line up quickly and then stop to look at the sideline? Just call a play and run it fast. UT did that to OSU and caught the OSU defense tripping over themselves. Once again, Stoops was out coached.
Utah deserves to be number 1. They’re undefeated and they beat Alabama like a rented mule.
Mel, I love your support for the squad and the school, but eventually we have do decide if we want to win “big” games or just win the conference title every other year. I mean, I like actually beating Texas and WINNING in January. Call me crazy…
Facts as simple as a one loss team should not jump another one loss team that beat them. If we REALLY want to get technical, we can have an argument about whether Tech should have won the three-way tie over both of us.
Who called the plays? They were very Stoops STUPID and I’m tired of losing in January!!!!!! Proud of the team, they did their best with what they had for coaching. Sam you deserved the Heisman and hope you return.
Congatulations to the Gators. I’m apalled at some of these remarks abt Bob Stoops and our team. It’s wonderfil to win and be the champions but their all still champions to me.
I still think Bob Stoops is a wonderful coach and he’s done a wonderful job at OU… I know lots of us are disappointed but a lot of teams don’t even make it to the bowl games…. I think maybe some of you should go for Bob’s job and just see how well you perform….See how many bowl games u get us too…… I think we have many things to be proud of in Bob, the other coaches and the whole team.I’m sorry u didn’t win the title, but I know u tried hard…. So, Jeff, you would rather have a losing season say like ASU or Washington than a winning season of 10-2. Call me crazy, but at least I enjoyed 10 games this year unlike ASU who enjoyed 1 and Washington who enjoyed ZERO.
The Oklahoma defense and defensive coaches played like the best team in the nation. Who on earth takes a passing team like Oklahoma and runs four straight plays up-the-gut and off-tackle, not wide, not even an option!! Yes I feel horrible that OU lost. Stop and think, the players feel worse. They busted their butts all year to play in this game. Yes it is a just a game for us, they are the ones who worked so hard to get there, not us. Give them a break,the coaches and the players. At this point, it’s hardly unreasonable to ask why Bob Stoops is a Sacred Cow in OU football. It’s hard to avoid the conclusion that the Sooners were -thoroughly- outcoached last night. Some bad breaks for sure, but that cuts both ways. Frankly, if he can’t figure it out after 4 consecutive BCS losses, he ain’t ever gettin’ it. Assuming we even get to another BCS bowl in the near future, and assuming Stoops gets us there, I’ll be sure to spare myself the anguish and embargo the game and all media coverage thereof.

you’re the only real program in the state and not a whole lot more in the region. mickey mouse can coach to ten wins in the big 12. schedule North Texas State, 8 Big 12 games and a few other cupcakes and you got it. all this about bob stoops being a great coach is just foolish. if you go less than 9-2 with OUs schedule that’s bad.
Texas might well be four behind Utah AND USC (who was CONVINCING against the Big-10 CHAMP). Boy, I wonder what Mack would have said about his team if he were in Carroll’s shoes. He’d have been crying a river DURING the NCG, on air!
…and having read some prior comments, I should add that I take nothing away from the players. If anything, their talent all season only speaks to the failure of the coaching staff to take what was possibly the most talented Sooner team in history to the promised land.
I don’t reserve my criticism for Stoops. Venables deserves some heat too for earlier season play, although his defense stepped it up tonight in a way that I didn’t expect. Which, however, is only to say that they showed up…finally. Again, Stoops ain’t no lackey, but he’s no first-tier head coach either. And even if you disagree, it’d be hard to argue that he deserves the ridiculous salary and bonuses he’ll collect at the end of this season.
Chris, before you can lose the bowl in January, you have to get them there. I hardly think you can do it. At least Stoops gets us there and even though we didn’t beat Texas on the field at least we had the satisfaction of beating them to the BCS game. All they had to do was beat Texas Tech and they couldn’t do it. Everyone knew the rules before the season started. Our players played hard and wanted this as much as we did and it just didn’t happen.

Turnovers were major factor, a couple of “freakish” interceptions. yes OU should have tried a field goal in first half but that’s hindsight and easier to read if you are an armchair QB. Defense did a great job, of course it’s hard to contain Tebow for a complete game. This is a good Florida team. As OU fans we should be first class enough to admit it and go on. For those that are upset with Stoops, maybe you could make a couple of phone calls and see if John Blake is available, I’m sure he is. Texas will cry because that is what they do and will do as long as Mack Brown is there. USC is as good as anyone and you don’t here them crying. So come on Sooners, take this one on the chin and get back up. Even Switzer didn’t win all the National Championship games he was in.

in four NC games under stoops the offense has averaged 15 points. their largest point total, 19, was against USC who scored so many times OU had tons of chances on offense. that’s super coaching. nice bob stoops.

I know Texas has satisfaction in knowing that we aren’t able to win the BCS bowl games, but I am having satisfaction in knowing that at least we can get there. At least we have been there 7 times. They have only made it three. We may have lost the last 5—hey, let’s face it Oklahoma likes to set records. Sometimes they are records that we don’t like to set, but it keeps us in the media and shows us how much Texas can whin.

117 other teams would do anything to be in that game. (See Mack Brown) The loss hurts big time. My son was crying. I tried to explain to him that in grand scheme of things. Losing to Tim & the Gators in the BCS final is not the end of the world. I visited a 40 yr. old man today in the Hospital, dying from cancer. Some of these hateful comments really seem to come from folks without much perspective.. And for the record, all of you together don’t know as much as Bob & rest of his staff. I’m a SOONER fan, it’s no crime to expect the best. Under Stoops we have settled for medocrity in coaching while having the talent to have won 4 national titles.As much as i hate Texas they are right we shouldn’t have been there (unless we had Pete Carrol or someone like that coaching). We’ve simply become PATHETIC & the new sooner tradition is Loosing the big game, What happened to OU pride, to championships & championship charcter, the regular season isn’t for squat if we cant win the big one. If we had great,motiving coaches the players wouldn’t get used to chocking & lets face it the droped balls & stupid penalities are a coaching issue as well as a poor player performance issue. Maybe someday we’ll be able to hold our head high to boomer sooner again.
OU’s problem and most teams that lose the bowl games is that the layoff from the season ending game is too long. That’s always been the problem.

I am disappointed that OU lost. Problem is that OU just didn’t hire enough Texans. I mean only 10 Texans starting for OU? Come back next year with at least 15 and you might have a chance.
GO GATORS!!!!!! I am a born and raised Okie (had no choice in the matter) and I was cheering hard for the Gators. I dont understand the whole OU football thing. They win most of their games by sheer luck, not skill. I get a real chuckle out of looking at some of these run-down homes with a car on blocks in the yard and they have Sooners flags and signs hanging from their front porch. You know damn well not one person in that family has ever stepped foot on a campus. Oklahoma should concentrate on education not a stupid sport.

Everyone’s self bias will never end till the broken BCS is trashed. Just think how Utah and like Universities feels… these non-elite schools are told to sit in the back of the bus every year. The solutions… do away with the BCS! These silly arguments would end with a playoff… where everyone then would get their shot. Your frustrations should be aired towards the self-serving elite “monopoly” University Presidents. Someday we will look back the BCS system and wonder how it ever existed… segregation of the 1960’s! That’s where Bob Stoops has led you & you think it’s great.We are not kidding when we say “the rest of the college football world looks at us w/ either derision or sympathy because they remember when OU football was the GREATEST (longest winning streaks & monster defences under both Wilkinson & Switzer),When teams played with their heart because that’s what they were Taught- “if you’re gonna play here that’s how you play or you can sit on the bench”. Stoops doesn’t seem to be able to motivate these kids & has surrounded himself with people that make pretty stupid decisions,Look, there are some VERY good coaches that would love to Coach at OU, especially with the talent we’ve had & will continue to get w/ or w/out Stoops.I still maintain that we’ve had the talent to have won at least 4 national titles in the last seven years WITH the right conditioning & coaching. Nothing better from this Oregon Ducks fan than watching Joklahoma go down, again. The look on Stoopid’s face on the sideline was great. After the Holiday bowl the Sooner fans totally went off on how great they were and how bad Oklahoma State was, rubbing it in hard……now what do they have to say? At least the ‘Pokes (love the term) have class and aren’t throwing it back in the Sooners faces. Let’s face it, the Sooners whine, get caught cheating and forfiet games, lose bowl game after bowl game, yet still manage to get in BCS games ahead of more deserving teams (and conferneces IMHO). I hope everyone remembers this when we do it all again next year.

Could it possibly be that the so called BIG TWELVE is no where near as tough as the SEC. What makes OU fans think that because you can score 60 points against weak teams you have a great team. All the excuses boil down to Florida was a BETTER team and BEAT a weak team that plays in a weak conference.
I’m an orange-blooded Texas grad and I was pulling for the Sooners (yes, I know, sacrilege) and the Big 12. I saw a great game and, I think, the better team last night won. Congratulations to Florida. I realize that OU football is a religion in Oklahoma (I have lived there twice) and that’s because it’s been the only sports franchise in the region and a very successful one at that. However, I find a lot of the postings on this site disturbing. Since when are the Sooners obviously the best team on the field and that the only way they can lose is through bad coaching, play calling, etc.? Since when is a successful program that has made it to several championship games a failure? Since when does the head coach who consistently wins football games and ends the season in the top 5 or 10 need to be run out of Norman? Unbelievable! First, it’s only football and, in the real world we live in, really doesn’t deserve this level of angst. Second, you folks need to get a real life. I can’t imagine how poor your lives must be to get this worked up over something that, in the scheme of things, is not that important. Get over it!
I’m a Sooner fan like most who have posted and this is only the 3rd time I have ever posted a comment on a blog. The other two were after the last two Fiesta Bowl games.
So I will not be as long winded and straight to the point. Bob Stoops should move on and it is time we get a coach that knows how to win the big game. OU Played in 3 of the last 6 BCS Championship Games, at least win 1 of them. In addition, get beat by Boise State and WV. Go hire the Utah coach, it worked for Florida.
The Sooners have been a middle of the road team since Tom Stoops left to go Arizona. Bob Stoops should have been let go after the USC – BCS Championship game.
The Sooners have had some of the best talented football teams in the past 5-6 years. So you put those players on the field with the current coaching staff and you can not help but win 10 games. Actually a good High School coach with that talent can win 10 games.
But when you play an team that is just as talented and coaching is invloved, we will lose everytime.
This past Thursday – The Sooners were the better team, talent wise and it showed at times. But the coaching was terrible, once again. I should say the play offensive play calling, in the big game was terrible once again. The “D” did their job, they held Florida to 1/2 of their season average. All the Sooners needed to do was to score 1/2 of their season average
It is time to move on for both Stoops and myself.
I can’t waste these hours watching the team. Letting myself believing in them only to have it obliterated every year. Perhaps they aren’t studying the film; I don’t know. Game– after game — after game; the bad play calls, the bad preperation, the complete waste of talent and the embarassment of family and friends calling to give their condolances. The money wasted on trips to Pasadena, and Eugene. The hours! The hours I have lost! Here is a case study: Just look at how good Adrian Peterson is doing now. Oh no, lets pretend the rest of the team doesn’t exist and never use him as a decoy. Lets make sure he always gets the ball so the opposing team knows where to go. Lets slow the speed of the offense down to a crawl in the second half of the game against Florida, and for kicks lets completely stop blitzing. Oh yeah, why would you want to throw the ball to Gresham he is only the most intimidating sure thing ou has for a reciever.
Florida was a good team, especially Ahmad Black, but the O line should have been used as a battering ram against the smaller and less mature Florida D Line. It was again a total waste of talent much like Adrian Peterson. It is ridiculous and absurd.
I proclaimed I was done with them this last year after the WV fiasco, but I was sucked back into the games because of how great Bradford was doing. This time I mean it. I’m taking all of my sooner paraphenelia putting it in a box and sending it to good, old, coach bob. I will place a very polite letter explaining how I just can’t support the team with my time when over and over again he and his staff go completely loco in either their game prep or during the game. I will ask him to put the items on a shelf and when he wins a BCS game to please send it back to me. I will even put some cash in the package for return postage. This just has to stop. Its just not fun anymore. Ever since USC, there is now a palpable dread that is associated with OU playing in a BCS game which has been reinforced in subsequent years.
Its not the talent, Its coaching. Lofa Tutupu said as much after Championship game.
The players deserve better. The fans deserve better. The Big XII deserves better. I am quite sure Missouri would have shown up much better last year against WV than OU.

By the way Mr. Stoops, if you were half a man you would return the three million you just recieved. That kind of money demands success. Have some honor.

I recall hearing a lot of the same yak about Frank Solich (see Dean’s comment above) before he was run off. Be careful of what you ask for, and recall Blake and Schnellenberger, etc. Maybe Stoops needs to alter the coaching staff a bit, let him do that as he sees fit. I’m an NU fan, but was disappointed that the B12 didn’t perform better in the big bowls.
And for all the tu posters, sorry tu would not have played the Gators better, they stunk it up in the Fiesta against a second rate OSU team that they should have beaten by 3 TD’s. Get over it.
For all those Texas fans out there who have nothing better to do then write on these blogs in a pathetic attempt for the rest of the country to feel sorry for you by attacking Bob Stoops. Since you guys seem to think Mack Brown can walk on water lets examine the facts. Bob Stoops has won 6 Big 12 championships in 10 years. Mack Brown has won 1 Big 12 championship in 11 seasons (Lets remember that was the season he had a freak at quarterback!) How many national championships has Mack Brown been in? Just 1 (Again, that was the year he had a freak at quarterback who single handingly dismantled USC!) Stoops has been to four National Championships. When it has mattered in the conference Stoops has outshined Mack Brown again and again. BOOMER SOONER!
By the way Texas fans should be embarrassed to talk about how they should have been in the title game after that pitiful performance against an Ohio State team that they were heavily favored to win.
Hmm, Bob is ok at head coaching. Just get rid of Wilson or demote him to water boy and maybe OU can have above average offensive performances in post season games. And to Texas. There is no excuse as to why you guys do not go to the Big 12 championship or the National championship every year. You guys always have one of the top recruiting classes every year and still, Bob is able to win more Big 12 titles and go to more BCS national championships games with the left overs Mac doesn’t want to recruit.
