Who said “fluke?”
Moments after Saturday’s victory, OU QB Sam Bradford told ABC sideline reporter Lisa Salters the Sooners were motivated by statements made by Missouri players calling OU’s last two wins over the Tigers “flukes.”
What statements was Bradford referring to?
Hard to say.
An exhaustive search returned zero bulletin-board material coming from Missouri coaches, players or media last week. Plenty of comments came from south of the Red River and from the national media about Texas being more deserving than OU of the Big 12 title game.
But nothing from Columbia. Not even from quarterback Chase Daniel, who has a history of providing bulletin-board comments.
Perhaps the Sooner coaches and players had access to information the public did not. Or perhaps Bradford was confused with last year. Or perhaps something was passed around the locker room containing quotes that weren’t actually said. Or perhaps I just haven’t found what Bradford was referring to.
Whatever happened, it worked as OU rolled 62-21.

Before the 2007 Big 12 Championship game, Chase Daniel said about their regular season loss to the Sooners, that the Tigers gave the game away because of turnovers and mistakes. He gave no credit to OU for the win.
If you will listen to Bradford’s comments again, after the 2008 game, he says that last year Missouri said the wins were flukes and that this year people said the Sooners did not belong in the championship game.
At the time he made the statement, I knew his meaning.

Thanks for pointing this out Jake — we in Tiger nation were slightly surprised to hear his comments. I know Sam is a smart kid and probably a good kid but it irked many of us that he is either being lied to by his coached or just making up lies — plus isn’t a 41 pt win enough?
How many times can OU throw out the no respect card?
But regardless, good luck in the title game.
