Men’s hoops: A little more from Glockner
By Scott Wright
My interview with ESPN.com’s Andy Glockner for today’s story was fairly interesting, so I figured I should share some more of it with you. Here’s what else the “Bubble Watch” master had to say:
“Given their injury troubles, especially with Longar Longar and losing three straight, I thought that might be the breaking point for Oklahoma. But they’re a team that’s better than a lot of people realize. The fact that Longar came back will help them with the committee. The question is, can you validate your profile with everyone you have available for the NCAA Tournament? So Oklahoma will get some credit for those losses when Longar was out.”
“The Baylor game is huge for them. They’ve got to get that one. The Big 12 Conference, at best, will get six teams in, but maybe not. So you want to be ahead of Baylor in that fifth spot. It’s rare that the committee will jump over a team in the conference standings to take one that is below it. There’s a big perception difference between being 9-7 and beign 8-8. I imagine a major conference will get a team in that’s .500 in the conference, but it’s too early to say whether or not Oklahoma could be that team.”
