Men’s hoops: Willie Warren selected for McDonald’s game
By Scott Wright
Oklahoma basketball signee Willie Warren will be named to the McDonald’s All-America team, according to a report by the Dallas Morning News.
The full roster for the game is expected to be released Feb. 19, but Warren said he learned about the honor in a phone call from OU coach Jeff Capel last Friday afternoon prior to his final home game of the season at North Crowley High School outside Fort Worth, Texas.
The McDonald’s All-American Game will be played March 26 in Milwaukee. It will be televised live at 8:30 p.m. by ESPN (Cox 29).
“Coach Capel said he talked to (ESPN recruiting analyst) Bob Gibbons. They said I was in,” Warren told the Dallas Morning News. “The official papers are at North Crowley.”
“It felt good to hear that, especially finding out on Senior Night at my last home game.”
Warren, a 6-foot-3 guard, is averaging 24.2 points, 4.4 assists and 3.6 rebounds this season. He is ranked among the top 25 players in the 2008 recruiting class by most online services.
He is the second McDonald’s All-American to sign with the Sooners under Capel. Current freshman Blake Griffin was a McDonald’s All-American last season.
