Track: OU’s J.D. Martin Invitational is this weekend
The University of Oklahoma hosts the eighth annual J.D. Martin Invitational this weekend, Feb. 1-2, in the Mosier Indoor Facility.
Action kicks off Friday at 1 p.m. with the women’s pentathlon followed by the start of the men’s heptathlon at 2 p.m.
Saturday’s events begin at 9:30 a.m. with the conclusion of the men’s heptathlon. Running events begin at 10:30 a.m. while field events start at 11 a.m. Admission is free to the public.
The field features student-athletes from several area college and universities including Abiliene Christian, Arkansas, Central Arkansas, Fort Hays State, Huston-Tillotston, Langston, North Texas, Oklahoma Baptist, Oklahoma Christian, Oklahoma State, Oral Roberts, SMU, St. Gregory’s, Tulsa and UT-Arlington.
Four Sooners will be looking to defend titles in the J.D. Martin Invitational. Sheldon Leith (60-meter hurdles), Chip Heuser (pole vault), Shardae Boutte (triple jump) and Mitch Henry (heptathlon) all earned titles in their respective events in 2007 and are slated to compete in those same events this year.
Boutte, Henry and Leith are all coming off title wins in their respective events at last week’s Razorback Invitational. Boutte currently has the nation’s second-longest mark, 52 feet and 11.5 inches (16.14 meters), in the triple jump.
