I don't see Gundy and Monken thinking this is a rebuilding year at all.
This is reloading and getting ready for a long run of Big 12 and MNC championship runs.

The coaches know what they're doing. They know what Lunt's potential is. It's a matter of experience and the schedule is kind enough to give Lunt (or Walsh or Chelf) 4 weeks of games and one off week) before the first Big 12 conference game with Texas rolls into Stillwater.

If Lunt is comfortable, as he should be, with the playbook and his surrounding cast, then a win in Stillwater over Texas puts the Cowboys in the Big 12 driver's seat again.

This is NOT a rebuilding year, because all of the pieces (experienced pieces) are there and the new pieces just need a little, game experience to get there.

It's going to be a fun year in Stillwater for Cowboy fans.

For my part, I think OSU's coaches chose the right player for the position. There were hints all Spring that Lunt would be the man. Monken and Gundy took to Rochester, IL to specifically invite Lunt to Stillwater for an open try-out spoke volumes about his potential. Then there were Monken's comments in interviews in January - April about #11's maturity, accuracy, productivity, and ball security. Finally, watching the Orange-Grey game/ Spring Finale made it obvious that Lunt has the tools to be successful.

I am completely supportive of the coaches' decision, but I wonder about potential depth at the QB position and our ability to recruit QB's who would be looking at 3 years on the bench.

While people wonder..how could Gundy pick a Freshman...if he had no other options out there is would be a downer...that is not the case though...Walsh and Chelf are both good QB's. Lunt though picking up the game so well and having such a strong arm looks to be an exceptional Quarterback. I feel sorry for Walsh and Chelf. Both have worked hard.....Gundy knows that either may need to step back in....and each Chelf and Walsh have enough talent to be used in special game situations and / or be usded in another position that they can excel in and Ostate needs support. Lunt may be the best Ostate QB ever...but it is a little premature prognosis at this stage...but the future is bright.

I'm still surprised by the decision to go with Lunt. It looks like Gundy and Monken don't mind making this a rebuilding year. Patience was never my virtue, but I still have hope for a great season.
