BAD as in bad, or BAD as in really good? I think they they stay together and keep their noses clean they are destined to be a very special kind of team next year. And, I think they will have some upsets this year that will surprise some people. Give them a break. They’re young and they’re trying very hard. What else do you want from them? Just be patient. Remember Thunder’s 1st year? We were patient and it paid off big-time. They’re building for the future, and I enjoy the building as much as the final product.

Just having a little fun. Don’t take it all so seriously. But seriously, when we get our class in next year and these guys have had a season together like this one, someone may be searching for nicknames. Guess I’m just kind of jumping the gun a little. And I don’t mind promoting these Cowboys this year, nor the wrestling team (which may win it all again!). I like promoting, and hope lots of people come out to see them, and the Cowgirls, too.
Some people tried to put nicknames on Barry Sanders, but he juked and spun, and outran or ran over all of them.

The Four Horsemen, The Steel Curtain, The Fab Five, Murderer’s Row, I know Freckles Brown doesn’t quite fit in, but I think I’ve made my point. It’s not the media’s obsession with nicknames, it’s more the fans wanting them. I think these I’ve mentioned lived up to their level of play with their nicknames.

Nicknames have been a part of sports for as long as there has been sports. Little Poison, Big Poison, The Sultan of Swat, Freckles Brown, the list goes on and on. Don’t be a wet rag, Barry. We tend to want to give our star athletes some newer monicker when we grow fond of them.

I have a great one too. How about the Oklahoma State Cowboys? For a change every now and then we can refer to them as OSU or possibly Pokes.

What is the media’s obsession with inane nicknames? Is there a pool in the press room for who can pen more names than everyone else?

Got a hint for you. Something my father and coaches as I was growing up used to tell me all the time. Nicknames are for those whose level of play does not speak for itself.
