Could changes impact the Pokes?

The Big 12 moved two more conference games on Thursday, with Oklahoma’s battle with Iowa State moved to Nov. 26 and the Cyclones game against Kansas State was moved to Dec. 3, joining Bedlam and Texas vs. Baylor.
Why should Oklahoma State care?
Because the moves could impact the Pokes in both positive and negative ways.
On the positive side, OU now has a game on Thanksgiving weekend, meaning OSU will have more time to prepare for Bedlam than the Sooners. The Cowboys last game before Bedlam is their Nov. 18 tilt with Iowa State. That gives OSU more than two weeks to prepare for its final game of the season.
On the negative side, Iowa State will now have a bye the week before the Cowboys travel to Ames for their Friday matchup in mid-November. Meanwhile, OSU will have a tough test in Lubbock against Texas Tech just six days before they hit the field to battle Iowa State.
It already would have been a tough task to play back-to-back Big 12 games in six days. And now, unless their schedule changes, the Cyclones will have 13 days to prepare for the Pokes. That will give ISU the opportunity to sit at home preparing to face OSU with their minds on making a statement on national television while the Cowboys are taking on the Red Raiders in Lubbock.

The schedule change will help the Cowboys because they will have more time to heal and get ready for Bedlam. The Iowa State game will give ISU time for OSU, but I expect OSU to handle ISU.
If Oklahoma State is as good as they should be at this point, and they have the roster, the depth, and the coaching that they have been building up to the last few years then they shouldn’t have any problem preparing for those games and winning.
It shouldn’t matter. The other team has to play on the same day. If they are an inferior team they should be at a bigger disadvantage.
OU should be worrying. The last two bedlam matches OSU star players were injured. An extra week to prepare can only be good for the Cowboys to rejuvenate.
No at problem for OSU. OU should be worrying. The last two bedlam matches OSU star players were injured. An extra week to prepare can only be good for the Cowboys to rejuvenate.
[...] Chatmon with some interesting thoughts here on how the schedule shakedown could negatively impact OSU. As if we needed a higher degree of difficulty to the already-ridiculous schedule. (News OK) [...]
The more things change the more they stay the same (for OSU).Pokes have less of chance winning the new conference. now they have to beat everyone, something they haven’t done in 50 years.
Stan when was the last time that OU beat EVERYONE in the Big 12 Conference. That’s right. Never. This is the first year of the round robin.
We are talking about the same Iowa State team that lost like 55-0 to OU right? This is a non story, they could have a year to prepare and get stomped.
Yeah I admit that one was weak Charlie. I hate it when an insult goes bad. I’ll try harder in the future.
Dogg didn’t OU go (12-0) in this decade, winning all the big 12 games, and won all of the Big 8 conference games several times. Some people don’t want to know the facts, they live in their aggie dream world. The fact is, OSU has not come close to what OU has accomplished.
Stan,
Actually OU’s NC season was 11 years ago (if that was what you were referring to). OU’s last undefeated conference season was in 2004, when the Sooner’s lost the BCS national title game to USC (55-19). Even with a great team, going undefeated is EXTREMELY difficult, and just doesn’t happen very often.

I agree with my fellow Poke fans. This is no cinderella Poke football squad like those in years past with pie-in-the-sky dreams of undefeated seasons that never came to pass. This is, or so we’ve been led to believe by insiders and media observers, a legitimate contender, and as such should arrive at Bedlam undefeated and ready to kill the ultimate monkey-on-the-back once and for all. We will have found out if this is the case long before Ames, even Lubbock. We’ll know after the first Conference tilt in College Station in late September.
Uhh.. Stan- no one has ever beaten ALL the big 12 teams in a season because we haven’t had a round robin schedule before. That’s what Newbdog was getting at.
Newbdog, while I agree that it would be extremely unlikely that ISU beats them, it isn’t the same team that played last season.. college teams fluctuate every year due to graduations and offseason successes
Stan,
The Big 8 was a different conference. No you didn’t beat all the teams in 2004 or in 2000. This is the first year of a round robin schedule.
I really think we should rename our conference to something that doesn’t have a number in the title.

At the end of the day its Iowa State.
