I’m not a playoff proponent, so maybe I’m biased. But no reasonable, practical playoff system would include OSU more than once in 20 or 30 years. A reasonable playoff would have 8 teams at most. How often does OSU finish the regular season ranked #8 or better? Or win the conference championship? A team would have to do one or both of those to be included in a playoff. No, you need to hope the bowl system continues for a long, long time. The bowl system benefits OSU, because OSU’s fans travel well, and the bowls like that. OSU has several times gotten picked ahead of teams with better records but with fans who don’t travel as well, like Missouri.

I agree with Nick, if you can’t sell out your home stadium in the biggest game of your program’s history, why would they think you would sell out Jerryworld for a bowl game?

The chances of Penn State are slim. They are likely headed to the Outback or Gator Bowl. Michigan seems to be the most likely Big Ten opponent.
