If that is an example of the type of Posters a Message Board embraces, the tag, "messageboard reject" is a high compliment indeed.

I think if anything John provides an alternate explanation of why Weeden has not seen any playing time before (other than Colorado). I do seem to remember Gundy saying some time ago, maybe 2008, 2009 season something along the lines of neither backup QB wanting the 2nd string spot, so if anything history seems to side with Helsely. That being said, I would have liked to see him play vs OU or Ole Miss, but that was last season. On the bright side, what happened at Tech, while unfortunate for last season, may have helped us out tremendously this season. Hopefully Cate will do well at his school, however.

Last year I noticed that Gundy exhibited some thinly-veiled derision towards Weeden. It was obvious that Gundy wasn't impressed. I join with many of the other people commenting in being a bit incredulous that Gundy didn't recognize the talent. What might have been lost on the coach was that Weeden's motivation is likely different from a 19-year-old fresh out of high school (i.e. Weeden is older, is married, has seen a little bit of real life and has taken his knocks around the minor leagues). Being a coach who was a quarterback, he probably judges all quarterbacks by the same standard: himself. He can do that -- he's the coach -- but I don't think this will always serve him well. Talent and motivation don't always come in a package that is all "hair gel and fury," as I saw Gundy once described.

Pretty much agree with all the comments above, but have a little trouble understanding Brandon's comment. Seems Gundy has done a great job in certain areas, but has failed at time to understand the potential of some of the players. Under Weeden, it looks like OSU has almost reached the top of the hill, and should they win at Texas and UO, they could be on the downward side with a target on their back.

After Colorado I was surprised and dissappointed that Gundy did not play Weeden more. Zac was obviously injured most of last season and the whole offense suffered. I bet if Weeden was allowed to step in and give Zac a week or so off to heal our season would have been a whole lot better.

Weeden is the real deal. What an arm. No he is not a runner so a Cam Newton or Denard Robinson he is not. But he is a great throwing quarterback and you can see him getting to be a smarter quarterback each game as he reads and burns the defense. Quite frankly, I do not know why he is not getting more National attention. His prowess on the field I guarantee you is being looked at by the Pro's as he is exactly the type quarterback they are looking for. Cam Newton's and Denard Robinson's are College quarterbacks not Pro Quarterback material.

Actually, I like Gundy's honesty. He doesn't act high and mighty and give the "I'm the coach and you're not so don't bother me with stupid questions" act like some coaches. "Google it". I have every bit of confidence in the decisions these coaches make. They have shown improvement every year and they have done an amazing job in recognizing talent (Hunter, Lemon) and then developing it once they get in the program (The entire O-line). 5 straight bowl games in 6 years, at least 3 straight 9 win seasons (will be no less than 10 this year which hasn't happened since 88), wins in places OSU hasn't won in 60 years, and a possible Big 12 championship birth. Gundy is doing things at OSU that haven't happened in a long time if ever! Also, it is a well known fact that this system is far more suited for Weeden than the one Zac ran. All in all this season has been a pleasant surprise! Go Pokes!

Didn't know what they had after Grambling and Colorado and a couple of open scrimmages before that ? Coach Gundy's a great coach in some ways, but a lot of us feel and still feel like Weeden had demonstrated in public scrimmages and games anyway that he clearly deserved to be Robinson's backup quarterback. And it's still really difficult to believe they couldn't start him for the 2nd half anyway against OU because it was obvious OSU's offense was going nowhere with a hurt Robinson at QB. 2nd half adjustments can sometimes be wonderful. But that should've been the adjustment. Berry Tramel's tried to defend Gundy not playing Weeden against OU last year, the OSU offense being based 80% on zone read which wouldn't have been Weeden's thing. It worked against Colorado though. Whatever he could've done couldn't have been much worse than what did happen.

This is not to not appreciate Zac Robinson. It's just sad he got hurt against Tech the way he did. It would've been enough in that game to just kick the field goal and go up by two scores. Sometimes just kick the field goal instead of going for more when you don't have to. Similar in some ways to why didn't Notre Dame just kick the high percentage field goal against Tulsa ? If you score the TD it looks brilliant, but here's two cases where things turned out way way not brilliant

This is the same coach that benched Donovan Woods as the Starter for Bobby Reid?

Brandon didn't show him the things that Bobby did and after all, he treated the two exactly the same didn't he?

I seem to remember something about one of the two being declared "the future" without demonstrating anything on the field other than that deer-in-the-headlights look. The other remained on the bench through Bedlam and Cotton after leading one of the most impressive 2nd half come-from behind victory in OSU's history.

He didn't know what he had even after Colorado????

With the question of possessing the ability to accurately identify the best QB candidates in practice set aside, this whole, "tried to give him the job for 2 1/2 years" business smacks of one that's trying to justify his decision to leave Weeden on the bench through Bedlam and Cotton.

None of this is necessary. Everyone gave Gundy a pass on the Bedlam and Cotton blunders when he handed the Offense to Holgorsen.

What's wrong with, "a switch flipped for Brandon in practice" or a "once he saw he would be given a realistic opportunity to start" and just leave it at that?

Why characterize oneself as a coach that couldn't see for 2 years what Holgorsen obviously saw in his first month on the job, perhaps the best QB in the schools history?

Why characterize a player as anything other than a kid whose switch hadn't flipped yet because he was buried in the depth chart? After all, there's no way on this green Earth that Gundy gave Weeden the realistic opportunity to unseat Zac Robinson, so buried he in fact was and he couldn't help but know it.

I suspect that had Gundy declared either Chelf, Deaton, or Sorenson "the future" early in the Spring, that Weeden's practice habits and attitude would have changed all that much from what it was. That would be a pretty normal reaction to being denied a realistic opportunity.
