Did OSU dodge a bullet by not getting the top recruit in the country?
Yeah, seems like a crazy question, right? But check out ESPN’s upcoming Outside the Lines (http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/otl/index) which is all about “package deals” and features point guard John Wall.
Dwon Clifton, the brother of Wall’s AAU coach joined Baylor’s staff over the summer, and the hiring has created waves with the NCAA. Wall still hasn’t committed to a college yet — apparently Memphis, Kansas and Duke are all still in the running in addition to Baylor — but if Wall ends up at Baylor one has to think the NCAA’s already-raised eyebrows are going to go way, way up.
You have to think Travis Ford is glad this isn’t his mess to deal with while he’s trying to win basketball games in late February.

Right, I’m sure their eyebrows will go way up. Whatever, that is total b.s. There is nothing in the rules that prohibits this activity. If you want to blame someone, blame the NBA for creating this stupid situation of 1 and done.
If the NCAA wants to go after Baylor, they might as well take a look at the recruitment of Chalmers at KU (his dad joined him), Danny Manning at KU as well with his dad the trucker, Dajuan Wagner at Memphis, and Micheal Beasley for good measure.
Its simply the world we live in.
OSU only dodged a bullet if they would have hired that assistant. Package deals are common. William and Wayman Tisdale anyone?
Anyone remember that Adarius Bowman transferred to OSU because the coach that recruited him at UNC (Gunter Brewer) took an assistant’s job at OSU? This happens ALL the time, everywhere. Why would this particular one “raise eyebrows”? It makes no sense, because the guy is going to the NBA after one season, so it isn’t like you can build a team around him. He’s sort of like a hired “hitman”…comes into town, does the job, and then splits. Just time for a cup of coffee, but no real interest in, or commitment to the program. Sort of like a year of purgatory because he isn’t yet 19 yo.

Bob this is not even close to the subject.
Bowman’s transfer to OSU to be with a certain coach he trusts is NOT ILLEGAL. Not even considered shady.
What you’ve missed, Bob, is that we’re talking about certain kids signing with a school ONLY IF their father or someone close to them is given a job as well. THAT is the point of this blog.

You have to be insane to think you “dodged a bullet” by not going after Wall.
Wall is a great kid and the best talent in the nation.
