Crowd falls short

By Scott Wright

Tonight’s attendance was just announced at 45,001, well short of the single-game record of 51,458 and 14,999 shy of capacity.

I agree. And let me tell you a story from the press box Saturday night.

The announcement came over the loudspeaker that the attendance was 45,001. I was shuffling around some papers at the time, so I heard “55,001.” And it was entirely believable to me.

My only guess is there were a lot more club seats empty than were noticeable. I really can’t explain the 15,000 empty seats. We’ll see how it changes this week.

There is no way in the world that the attendance numbers were accurate. It had to be a computer problem. Mr. Pickens, You built it and they came!
