FROM OSU ATHLETICS OFFICE

STILLWATER – The Oklahoma State University Department of Athletics has officially launched a fundraising campaign that seeks to increase the number of athletic donors to the POSSE, the official fundraising arm of OSU Athletics, to 10,000 members in 2009.A total of 8,058 members contributed to the POSSE last year, up from 5,911 members during the 2006-07 academic year. That increase represented a 36 percent jump in membership. Annual membership giving levels start at $150.

“This is an exciting time to be involved with OSU Athletics,” POSSE Director Jason Penry said. “We have great momentum in our annual fundraising efforts and are grateful for the high level of participation in the POSSE from alumni, parents, fans, staff and friends of OSU.”

Gifts from POSSE members help the athletic department in a variety of ways each year. Donations provide the necessary funds for student-athletes scholarships, academic support programs and other essential elements to support OSU’s 18 NCAA Division I teams. The POSSE has been providing funds for athletics since its inception in 1964. Today, the POSSE offers members a variety of exclusive benefits, including priority ticket options for football, men’s and women’s basketball, wrestling and postseason events, the award-winning POSSE Magazine, e-mail updates, bowl game activities, special ticket alerts, decals, membership cards for discounts and an educational tax deduction.

“OSU Athletics receives no state funding, so private support is critical to help

Oklahoma

State student-athletes compete at the highest levels,” Penry said.“An expanding support base is paramount,” he added. “For us to achieve the ambitious goal of 10,000 POSSE members, it is going to take a team effort. We hope current members rally around this campaign and enlist and other family, friends and alumni to help us continue to grow in this critical era of OSU Athletics. No gift is too big or small for our student-athletes. Participation is the key.”
