News and Notes from Media/Fan Day
By Scott Wright
A few items of note for your viewing pleasure:
Damian Davis is by far the skinniest dude I’ve ever met. Manute Bol would look at this guy and go, “man, he needs to eat something.” Seriously, even his teeth are skinny. Double-D, as he’s known to the team, measures 6-foot-5, 178 pounds and he’s in the mix to contribute at the wide receiver position. For his sake, I hope he doesn’t get sent across the middle.
Tailback Keith Toston skipped Saturday’s practice with some stiffness in his left knee, the knee that was surgically repaired after he tore his ACL late last year. Toston said the pain is minor and he is “just going day-to-day.” He spent most of the day riding a stationary bike on the sideline. Seems to me if this was anything serious, he wouldn’t have been on a bike.
Donald Booker is becoming the buzz of camp. Coach Mike Gundy noted his play specifically after the first two practices and Booker picked off a pass during Saturday’s team session. He could very well win the middle linebacker spot over Orie Lemon.
Zac Robinson is a superstar. I’m not talking about football, though we all know he’s quite a talent. He never got a break during the hour-and-a-half media day session Saturday (and his ravishing good looks had nothing to do with it). And rarely did he have fewer than three reporters or cameras in his face. Then, even as they were trying to usher him out of the room, some goofball reporter had a recorder in his face asking him more questions. That was me. Well, I didn’t want to be the only one not to talk to Quarterback McDreamy. Seriously, I’m never letting my wife near the guy. Heck, I’m keeping the media guide locked up just so she doesn’t start flipping pages and come across him.
And let me close with a question: how important is a walk-through practice the day before a game? I’ll tell you how important Gundy thinks it is in Monday’s paper.
