Ever have one of those days?
Picked up the paper this morning and glanced over my Trooper Taylor story (which I re-read like four times last night before I sent it in, by the way) and saw a glaring error. Taylor was not at Tennessee for more than a decade — that would be Dr. Iven, who introduced Taylor. That’s why you don’t type frantically while people speak and not pause to think things over. Anyway, sincere apologies for the error and I just asked them to fix it online.

Long time no post …

But since I’m sitting in Enid at the Cowboy Caravan at the moment, I figured what better time to get back on the blogging bandwagon?
Big crowd here in Enid — the POSSE guys told me they pre-sold sold 350 tickets, and I’m not sure what the final count is. In some ways these Cowboy Caravan things are like board meetings, going through the orders of business. We just finished hearing about facility updates, operating budgets, marketing campaigns, tickets, suite sales, etc.
But the main event (and the part I’m looking forward to most), Trooper Taylor, is up next. It’ll be my first time encountering the outgoing new co-offensive coordinator and you can read more about him in Tuesday’s Oklahoman.
That’s all for now (I gotta get to work!) but I promise the blogging vacation is over.
Allow me to introduce myself…
Hello, Cowboy fans.
I’m Scott Wright and I’m your new OSU football beat writer. Maybe you noticed my name on the story in today’s paper about Artrell Woods — or maybe you read the story and just assumed Mike Baldwin wrote it. Mike has been doing an excellent job covering OSU athletics for a long time now, so the bar is set quite high for me as I come in.
But I’m ready for the challenge. This is an exciting time for Cowboy football and I’m beyond excited to be stepping into this beat right now.
Just because I’ve been covering OU basketball the last two seasons, that doesn’t mean I’m an OU fan. I’m sure there will be some who anticipate me being slanted toward the crimson-clad folks. But that will not be the case at all. OSU is a quality athletic program and I’ll give it the detailed and thorough coverage it deserves, regardless of what’s going on in Norman. (more…)
Shreveport Scenario
ESPN is kicking up some preseason college football interest.
Hey, it’s that time.
Analyst Mark Schlabach has posted his, admittedly early, bowl projections for the upcoming season.
He has the Cowboys headed back, gulp, to Shreveport, to face Mississippi State in the Independence Bowl.
Headed back and taking a step back.
Shreveport is a desired bowl locale only if you’re looking to get back in the bowl business, not if you’re trying to build on your bowl experiences.
The Cowboys played Shreveport two years ago and took a step up at the Insight Bowl last season.
The potential problem for OSU is this scenario has merit. The conference portion of the schedule is rugged, meaning the Cowboys could be as good or better as a year ago, yet struggle to show it in the win-loss column.
The mid-level bowls that would figure to be in play for OSU will also likely have some intriguing teams to choose from: Nebraska, Kansas, Texas A&M, even Texas.
That could push the Cowboys lower in the pecking order, unless they can surprise and make a push to eight or nine wins, making themselves more appealing to say the Holiday Bowl or the Cotton Bowl or the Alamo Bowl.
Those are much more appealing scenarios for Cowboys fans than Shreveport in December.
