Allow me to introduce myself…
Hello, Cowboy fans.
I’m Scott Wright and I’m your new OSU football beat writer. Maybe you noticed my name on the story in today’s paper about Artrell Woods — or maybe you read the story and just assumed Mike Baldwin wrote it. Mike has been doing an excellent job covering OSU athletics for a long time now, so the bar is set quite high for me as I come in.
But I’m ready for the challenge. This is an exciting time for Cowboy football and I’m beyond excited to be stepping into this beat right now.
Just because I’ve been covering OU basketball the last two seasons, that doesn’t mean I’m an OU fan. I’m sure there will be some who anticipate me being slanted toward the crimson-clad folks. But that will not be the case at all. OSU is a quality athletic program and I’ll give it the detailed and thorough coverage it deserves, regardless of what’s going on in Norman.
I’m always interested in hearing from fans. Whether the feedback is good or bad, I want to know what you think, what you like, what you don’t like, what you’re interested in reading. I’m writing stories for you, the reader. Not Mike Gundy or Boone Pickens or anyone else. You can e-mail me anytime with thoughts, concerns, ideas, questions, dirty jokes (seriously, who doesn’t like a good dirty joke in the morning??).

I look forward to bringing you much more OSU football information in the coming days as the season nears. Once practice gets going, keep checking back on this blog, as I’ll be posting as often as I can to keep Cowboy fans up to date with what’s going on. Mike Baldwin was perhaps the most fair and unbiased writer the Oklhoman has ever sent to cover our Pokes.
We’ll miss him.
Now, there are two things we OSU fans would like to ask of you; one, be fair – you don’t have to sugarcoat everything like most of those covering the Swooners. We OSU fans are not going to threaten your life nor those of your family for being objective, but do try to focus more on the positive aspects than be so quick to point out any slight negative (as this paper is famous for doing to OSU sports).
Two, leave out any and all ubiquitous OU references in our OSU articles. Unless it relates specifically to the story..ie a Bedlam story…then we don’t want to hear nor do we give a crap about what Bob Stoops thinks about anything or how the Swooners compare.
Give us those two things and as much OSU coverage as you can and we’ll love you for it.
Just don’t allow yourself to be sucked down into the black hole of kowtowing Goonerism like Tramel, Rohde, Helsley and Carlson.
We OSU fans realize that your editors are not going to help you much as they’ll twist any headline to reflect negatively if they can.
But inside you content, if you’re honest and unbiased, we’ll know your words and your heart. Be straight with us and we’ll be just fine.
Oh, by the way, Scott — congratulations on being at the cusp of some great things happening in OSU sports.
