Track: Cowboys travel to Arkansas

The Oklahoma State Cowboy track and field team competes at the Razorback Invitational beginning at 10 a.m. this Saturday at the Randal Tyson Track Complex in Fayetteville, Ark.

The Razorback Invite is scheduled to begin at 10:00 a.m., with the men’s 3000-meter run followed by the women’s 3000-meter run at 10:30 a.m. The Cowboys will then compete in the 800-meter run at 10:50 a.m. followed by the mile run at 11:30 a.m. and the 400-meter run starting at 12:05 p.m., following are the 60-meter hurdles prelim, 60-meter prelim, 800-meter championship, mile run championship and the 3000-meter championship at 3:35 p.m. At 4:05 p.m. the finals for the 60-meter hurdles will start followed by the 60-meter final and ending the meet with the 4×400-meter relay.
 
Spotting the Cowboys

The 3000-meter run features five Cowboys: Josh Mathis, Johnathan Stublaski, Ryan Little, Peter Wood and Clay Mayes. The 800-meter run slated for 10:50 a.m. includes Cowboys Peter Doroshuk, Paul Burke, Brad McNiff, Jerhoemee Murray and Bryan Downey.  At 11:30 a.m., the field for the mile run includes OSU’s Ryan Vail, David Jankowski, Daniel Watts, Matt Barnes-Smith, David Chirchir, Brian Gosnell and Sean Fleming.  The only two Cowboys racing in the 400-meter run at 12:05 p.m. are Ryan Caldwell and Daniel Storts.

“We’re looking for big things, I think we should get a lot of personal bests,” head coach Dave Smith said. “I want the guys to be aggressive and go after their personal record times.”
 
Razorback Invitational Field

A total of 25 teams will compete at the Razorback Invitational, headlined by No. 5 LSU, No. 10 Baylor, No. 17 Oklahoma, No. 18 Texas, No. 21 Texas A&M, No. 24 Oral Roberts, Oklahoma State, and Tulsa, among others.
 
Last Time Out: Arkansas Invitational

The Oklahoma State men’s track and field team came away from the Arkansas Invitational with solid performances from freshman Josh Mathis and junior Brian Gosnell in their last competition. Mathis finished the 3000-meter run with a time of 8:35.38. Gosnell finished with the Cowboys’ fastest time of the day at 4:16.35 in the mile run. In the 3000-meter run, three more underclassmen joined Mathis in the top 12 as Ryan Little, Clay Mayes, and Peter Wood all enjoyed productive showings. Little ran a time of 8:48.36, Wood finished in 12th place with a time of 8:54.42. In the mile, the Cowboys once again placed four runners in the top 12 with Gosnell leading the way along with sophomores David Chirchir and Ryan Birkholz and freshmen Johnathan Stublaski. Chirchir finished in fourth place with a time of 4:16.94. Stublaski, with a time of 4:18.35, finished in sixth place. Birkholz finished 12th with a 4:27.83. The 800 meter run featured five Cowboy runners, with junior Peter Doroshuk, sophomores Brad McNiff and Jerhoemee Murray, and freshmen Brian Downey and Paul Burke competing. McNiff finished ninth with a time of 1:56.85. Close behind McNiff was Downey, who placed 12th with a time of 1:57.32. Burke checked in at 19th place with a time of 1:59.33, with Doroshuk finishing in 2:01.01 to take the 22nd spot. Murray crossed the finish line 38th with a time of 2:09.32 In the 400 meter dash, freshman Ryan Caldwell finished third in section eight with a time of 52.81.
 
Looking Ahead

The Razorback Invitational will close out the month of January for the Cowboys with seven remaining invites on the schedule. February will be a busy month as the Cowboy run in four events, J.D. Martin Invitational in Norman on Feb. 2, the Tyson Invitational in Fayetteville, Ark., on Feb. 15, the Sooner Invitational in Norman on Feb. 24 and ending the month of February, the Big 12 Indoor Championships in Lincoln, Neb., on Feb. 29.  The month of March sees three events scheduled for the Cowboys.  The Arkansas Last Chance Meet and the Alex Martin Last Chance Meet are both scheduled on Friday, March 7 and to end the season, the granddaddy of them all, the NCAA Indoor Championships will be held in Fayetteville, Ark., on March 14.
