The Sporting News is running a college football for fans this year. You can vote here.

Let’s just say the fans aren’t as high on Oklahoma State as the media or coaches.

OSU, ninth in the AP and eighth in the USA Today/Coaches poll, is No. 20 according to TSN fans. Among those ranked higher than the Cowboys: Miami and Texas.

Oklahoma, which tops the AP and coaches poll, isn’t No. 1 according to fans. Alabama is.

Here’s the poll:

Sporting News/Valvoline Fan Poll as of Sept. 1:

1 Alabama
2 Oklahoma
3 LSU
4 Oregon
5 Florida State
6 Nebraska
7 Boise State
8 Stanford

10 Wisconsin

After watching OU game and highlights of the others, I’d have to put OU below LSU, Nebraska, FSU, Boise State, Wisconsin, Alabama.

Fan polls are so stupid it makes the other polls appear to be nuclear science by comparison. They are driven by large markets who, duh, vote for teams local to large markets, or are otherwise thrust into the limelight by the media. For all the grumbling about polls, I am just glad Joe-Fan is not responsible for determining who gets to play for the marbles.

By perfect example, TCU which LOST, Miami which LOST, Georgia which LOST and Notre Dame which LOST, Auburn which needed a last second touchdown against a WAC team, are all in the same area or ranked higher. Stupid.

I’m particular there are lots of far much more nice instances within the lengthy term for people who study your web-site.
