Thank you to all the people that have my dads back!!! Im Harts daughter and I would like to say my dad owned up to his fault and if you didnt get to read his response his exact words were, “It’s like it overshadows my performance on the field,I don’t think that’s right. I think I should be judged as a football player, a student-athlete. My performance on the field spoke for itself.” He didnt get caught people he was the ONLY ONE to speak up, so what does that tell you?? There are so many kids to this day that accepted more than what my dad did from teams but since he got 3 schools on probation its wrong even if he did tell the truth?? No it wasn’t right accepting ANYTHING and im not trying to justify just because hes my father but bashing him like Ive seen in some of these comments…I mean come on get over it he was one of the best players OSTATE has ever had I think he deserves much more than he has been given!!

As an OSU75 alum I remember Hart Lee Dykes,James White,Philip Dokes,and of course Terry Miller…I agree with many earlier posts and OSU paid a severe price for its poor choices…To honor athletic acheivements is one thing but to acknowledge as a representative of the university will always carry a black cloud on what is right about college athletics…I am so over those of you that believe its okay to accept money,cars,grades,and the like and try to say most/many athletes do it…It is insulting for the many who got an education went to class and made lifetime friends…How can any Cowboys fan not accept the facts that Mr Dykes got 3 schools on probation and profit from his actions…No thank you..

You have to go back to that period in time. RBs in the old SWC were going for $25,000. The entire conference was almost on probation at the same time.

Yes HLD made a mistake but are you going to crucify an 18 year old kid the rest of his life? You honor and forgive Eddie Sutton for his mistakes yet you nail HLD to the wall. Some of you perfect character critics would probably say “Put Pete Rose in the HOF.” OSU needs to forgive and forget and move on.

Regardless of how it turns out HLD is still one of the best receivers in OSU or Big 8 history. He possibly would have been in the NFL except for two knees that went out. He has kept himself above the law. Hell there have been people put in prison for murder, rape and drugs since that time and come out so why nail HLD to the wall for a mistake engineered by grown adults?

First: Richard, thanks for exposing Tom for the squat he is in attempting to re-writing squat history. (You know, the sad thing is squat fans buy Tom’s regurgitated squat intrepretation without question.)

I see your thought process with this comment understand your point. However, Hart Lee was a Big Eight record-setting receiver. Had Willie Anderson brought us a conference championship we just might be honoring him. And had Pat Jones been smart enough to bail before everything went south, we’d likely have already honored him for his 10 win seasons at Stillwater.

If Dykes would have shown ANY contrition or humility at all I would feel a little different. As a 40 something he still sounds like the classless selfish punk he was as a kid.

Maybe he should speak to Coach Gundy about becoming a “man”.Remember, he’s a man,he’s 40.

I’m curious whether or not Hart Lee has come out publicly and appologized. I understand his point of view. He was just a kid but that decision cost the football program dearly. If he’s come out and said “I screwed up and I’m sorry” then I think OSU should accept that and accept him with arms wide open. Hart Lee was my child hood hero. I wanted to be just like him growing up, not Gundy and not even Sanders. I was bummed when this all came out but I’ve always like Hart Lee and I think he should be forgiven.

That’s a crock and you know it, or you should.

OU was busted on the Big Red deal by bloggers in Texas. People in the streets in Texas knew about it but the coaches that lived next door didn’t?

All total, how many players were “employee’s” of Big Red through the years? How many cars parked in the players lot were Lexus “test drives”?

Yes when busted and caught red-handed OU gave up only the two players they had to but the point is that they were supposedly on “probation” at the time.

“Any 18-year-old kid, you offer him money, you offer him incentives, they’re going to take it.” That quote shows what kind of person this guy is. Glad I wasn’t raised by a father like that. When I was 18 I would not have taken the money because when I was 18 I realized I was an adult and I knew RIGHT from WRONG.
