I've lived a bunch of places. Morgantown is not bad, certainly nowhere near being a pit, tho pitts is 75 miles north.

For the players sake, I hope Hogelson does well. I expect he'll do OK in 2011, if Coach Stewart stays and is in control, and if the defensive staff stays (and the players stay - who knows for how long).

But - he has no stated defensive experience, no head coach experience, is said to be a poor recruiter, and does not know the areas where WVU has traditionally found lots of players. Adding in that he will soon be in his fourth place over a five year span, I am concerned. I give him about three years before he moves, or is moved.

And WOW, did WVU, from Ollie Luck on up, do this in an unprofessional manner? Might be OK for pro sports, but certainly poor form for college sports and when dealing with student athletes. Might be the seeds of Luck turning.

Holgersen to WVU is exciting. It proves that the new WV AD is committed to the University's football program. I do feel bad for Bill Stewart because he is such a good person and is committed to developing teenage kids into young men. Lets face it, he is not the head coach that can get WV the national recognition it had with RR. I hope that the university can convince him to stay on as a recruiter because that is what he does best.

I am a bit confused by the head coach in waiting situation however. Perhaps Holgersen will be the head coach next year. The University has not made any official release of Holgersen coming to WV to date. In any event, I hope and pray that Holgersen, if and when he becomes HC, scraps the RR era uniforms and puts those guys on the field with a more presentable ensemble than what we have now. I mean they look generic, kind of like the Golden Bears get up. It's embarassing. Please Holgersen, lets win alot and look good doing it.

Thanks, Mr. Sherman. I am from WV, but I have lived in many states and countries. Hate to see ignorant people bad mouth places they have never seen and people they do not know. It is a great place to live, as I'm sure OK is as well.

I hope the stories are true, that Holgorsen is coming to WVU. Bill Stewart is a nice guy, but shows no promise of ever improving any football program, just keeping status quo. If Mr. Holgorsen leaves after great success, so be it. Better than staying after little. But WVU had a really good defense this year, with few seniors, so an offensive improvement may put us back to winning BCS bowls again.

I have to disagree Derick. When your offense puts 41 points on the board, they did their job. When the opposing offense puts 47 points on the board, your defense didn't do their job. Yes, they played well; yes, OU has a great offense. But when it comes down to it, if you score 40+ points in a game and you still lose, there is room for improvement on the D. OSU's offense was number 1 in all categories in the big 12, and they didn't win the conference. I'd say it is a sure bet that the D is the weak link.

I need to correct something I posted in a comment: West Virginia was not a missed field goal from playing in the BCS title game. Its 13-9 loss to Pittsburgh on Dec. 2, 2007 knocked the Mountaineers out of the title game and into the Fiesta Bowl, where they routed the Sooners. Pat White's injury is what killed West Virginia that day. As for whether the Big East will be in the BCS next year, bet on it. And TCU's membership ensures it.

think holgerson learned a lot this year about value of a spread running game. think osu learned a lot this year about value of a spread passing game. think next year would be great with continuity holgerson provides.

think holgerson to morgantown is a joke. mess to start (same anonymous source that says he is coming says Stewart adamantly against) career ender (rodriguez has put exclamation point on that job) the pitts to live in.

really suprised he didn't talk to muschamp at fl. really suprised he didn't wait until next year when the Michigan and Oregon jobs will open and all the dominoes really start to fall at the big schools.

you really think he is afraid of competition and is looking for a weak stick conference to suceed in?

and who says big east will be bcs after next year?

I have to disagree with Jason on OSU's defense being the weak link this year. The reason we lost the Nebraska game was absolutely our defensive play. However, the reason we lost the Bedlam game this year had a lot more to do with our offense not converting 3rd downs than it did with our defense. Other than the two big plays late, OSU's defense play very well in the Bedlam game, especially in the red zone.

So, to win a conference championship, both areas need improvement. Our offense was very good this year overall, and you have to think that a lot of that had to do with Holgorsen. There is a very real possibility that if he leaves, he will be missed right away. It would be great to land Mike Leach or someone that can bring a similarly high-powered offense to Stillwater, but Holgorsen proved a lot in a year about what he was capable of as OC. Hopefully, whoever succeeds him will be able to get something of that caliber. But, it would be unrealistic to expect the same numbers that we had this year, especially if we end up with someone with less experience than Dana.

Winning a Big 12 Championship has nothing to do with OSU's offense. It has everything to do with OSU's defense. OSU has a nice offense and has ever since Les Miles came to town, but if they really want to compete in Bedlam and compete for the Big 12 title, they need a defense. Defense wins championships (see 2010 Big 12 Champion Oklahoma).
